I'll begin with the service. As soon I walked in I was immediately greeted and shown to my table. Along the way to the table, the host started giving me the background about the restaurant. There's a lot of history that connects with the Kentucky Derby all the way back to 1875, hence the name. The atmosphere is pretty nice. I can't give it five stars, because it's lacking that certain something that reminds you that you're not actually in a New York City steakhouse. However, it is up-to-date and very charming. My server was very attentive and gave me their local apéritif which is based in tomato juice. He made sure I knew the history behind the restaurant as well as the tomato juice. He went over the menu and made sure that I was aware of the drinks that were available. The service was very warming and attentive. The house syrah was pretty decent for a house wine. I got my usual for a steakhouse, the boneless ribeye. I also ordered the house garlic mashed potatoes and the cream spinach and artichokes. The meal came significantly quicker than I expected. However, I had got there shortly after it opened and I was one of very few tables at that particular time. The food was warm, but not quite as hot as I would expect it to have come straight from the kitchen. The appearance was appealing and the portions were were large. Now for the review of the food. The ribeye steak was slightly undercooked. I ordered medium rare, and it came more rare than medium rare. That was okay with me, as I would prefer to be a little undercooked than overcooked. This was clearly not an aged steak, as there was lots of connective tissue throughout and the steak was significantly more chewy than a ribeye should be. The mashed potatoes were pretty good. I wouldn't say there were anything out of the ordinary, but they were good old around. The creamed spinach and artichokes was very rich and creamy. I enjoyed the taste. However, like the potatoes and the steak, it wasn't quite as hot in temperature as I would have expected it to be. Not cold, just warm. Dessert options are brought out on a cart. I got the chocolate torte, as that is my general go-to dessert. I also ordered a cappuccino. Both came fairly quickly and did not disappoint. I wouldn't say the quality of the food was bad, however, given the price and the local hype, I didn't feel it was really worth it. I'm glad I tried it, but if I'm in the area again, I will pass.

Had an incredible dinner at 1875: The Steakhouse in French Lick. The atmosphere is classy but still comfortable—think fine dining without feeling like you’ve got to check your personality at the door. Open views and a beautiful look out toward the gardens and historic Pluto Spring really set the tone for a great night. I went with the filet, and it was cooked to absolute perfection—tender, flavorful, and basically melted in my mouth like it knew its job. The sides and appetizers came out swinging too—every bite was worth it. And if you’re the type who “doesn’t have room for dessert,” make room. The bananas foster was a showstopper, and the flourless chocolate cake? Pure magic—rich, decadent, and somehow still light enough to make you think you’ve got room for just one more bite. Wine list? Excellent. Service? Flawless… attentive without hovering. They know how to let you enjoy the experience at your own pace. If you’re in French Lick and looking for an unforgettable meal, this is the place. Just come hungry… you’ll be glad you did.

I recently dined at the 1875: The Steakhouse. With high expectations and an appetite for a delightful culinary experience, my companions and I walked into what seemed like a promising evening. However, our visit quickly turned into a lackluster affair due to the average quality of food and a waiter who made us feel unreasonably rushed.

Let me start by discussing the food. Considering the hefty price tag associated with this steakhouse, we anticipated nothing short of excellence. Unfortunately, the food fell below our expectations. The steaks, touted as their specialty, were average. The cuts weren't to the level that one would expect from a premium establishment. The flavors were dull and lacked depth, failing to create a memorable dining experience. The sides were equally lackluster. The Caesar salad was tasteless and the creme brûlée was overcooked. It was disheartening to realize that we had paid a significant amount for a meal that failed to impress.

To make matters worse, the service we received from our waiter only compounded our disappointment. From the moment we were seated, we felt an undeniable pressure to rush through our meal. Our waiter seemed more focused on turning tables than ensuring our satisfaction. He barely provided us with enough time to peruse the menu before rushing to take our orders. Throughout the evening, we felt hurried, as if we were an inconvenience to the staff. It's disappointing to feel rushed when you're hoping for a relaxed, leisurely dining experience.

In conclusion, our experience at this expensive steakhouse was far from satisfactory. The lackluster food, combined with the hurried and indifferent service, made us feel like an afterthought rather than valued patrons. With a hefty price tag, we expected an extraordinary dining experience, but instead, we left feeling disappointed and unfulfilled. We will not be returning to this establishment and cannot recommend it to others seeking a truly remarkable...

We were all very hopeful and wanted to like it here but it just wasn’t very good. Drinks were mediocre though it seemed perhaps my martini had been spilled a bit on the way to the table because it was noticeably less full than others at the table. Salad wasn’t good, Lobster bisque was very good. Sides were terrible and we didn’t really attempt to eat them after a couple bites. Steaks and steak burger were all over cooked with the exception of one person at our table which was cooked properly but unfortunately was cold like it sat while waiting for the rest of the meat from our order to catch up. Flavor was lacking heavily on the steaks. The strip was murdered with pepper. Presentation for plates was poor and found it odd that the fat was still on and not carved off NY strip like most higher end places we visit. Though it is a beautiful place and table was set well. Service was the biggest thing that was noticeably lacking. Everyone we spoke to was unenthusiastic and we felt as if we were an annoyance. My associate was able to flag down our waitress to get another martini but she appeared annoyed as well that he wanted another drink. We still tipped the standard amount because we know people need to make a living. Though if the experience were better or at least better service it would’ve been exponentially more. All in all we were just disappointed. Basically felt like it was $400 Applebee’s with upscale setting and people who didn’t...
