My wife and I had our first experience with Rocket Dogs at their original location when they first opened and while we didn't hate it, we didn't think there was anything spectacularly great about it; it was nothing to write home about. Neither of the two dogs we had stood out to us in terms of flavor.
We went back about a year ago to give them another try, at their new location, and I wish I could say otherwise, but this time it was an even worse experience. I ordered the chicken & waffle sandwich and was super excited to eat since I had been craving a good chicken sandwich at the time.
When I received the food, I could not have been more disappointed; the food looked like exactly what it was, straight from the freezer and pre-made. The waffle was just about the saddest thing I've ever seen. It was about ¼ in. thick and was incredibly soggy, I honestly don't know how it's possible to get it to look/bend like that. These were obviously Eggo's, and I have to say I've never made an Eggo that turned out looking anything like that; I don't even know how it's possible. The coleslaw was decent but I don't remember it all so that also says something. And as for the chicken, it was maybe a little a little bit thicker than the waffle (so again, tiny) and it just reminded me of a chicken patty you'd find in the frozen section. There was nothing homemade about it, seasoning was bland (or nonexistent) and the batter was definitely not homemade.
You can see from my pictures exactly what I'm talking about, I'm not exaggerating whatsoever. You should compare my photos to the business-owner posted pictures of the same sandwich to see what it's supposed to look like.
I took maybe one or two bites of the sandwich the way they served it to me and immediately realized that was a mistake. The soggy waffle completely ruined the texture and taste of an already very bland sandwich. After those first bites I took the waffles off and basically just the chicken patty covered in coleslaw.
I hope they turn something around because I really want to like this place and would love to enjoy some gourmet dogs...
Read moreThe hundreds of reviews here and overall high rating is legit! This is the real deal and not hype. We figure we try something new tonight for dinner and drove on over to Rocket Dog.
It's a very casual restaurant but has a somewhat trendy/hipster vibe inside which isn't bad at all. The place has several tables but can easily get packed but there is seating outside.
Ordered the Lucky Luciano, Danger Dog and the kids had 4 chicken tenders and a single corn dog. The main dogs are $8-9 and come with chips which I believe you can continue to ask more of.
The main dogs were so good. Each component/ingredient is evident without stealing any spotlight from the hot dog/sausage. The flavor combinations work great. Definitely gourmet hot dog classification. The hot dogs/sausages they used are really good quality from what I tried tonight. They have a good snap to them on each bite and pack plenty of flavor.
The chicken tenders are forgettable but we only got them for the kids. The corn dog shines as well! It's not overly battered and the hot dog is a good size. Usually, you bite into a corn dog and you see the corn batter is thick while the hot dog inside is puny. Here it is complete opposite. They seem to use oversize hot dog and just put a skim layer of the corn batter. My kids loved it!
And last thing, something many overlook--the customer service here is outstanding! The ENTIRE staff who was working 4/15/2018 around 7PM was awesome. This is not a full service type restaurant. You simply order at the counter and they bring out your food. Despite that, the guys working were authentically nice and still asked if we needed anything well into our meal, and offered their assistance if needed. Smiles on their faces and honestly looked like they enjoyed working there. A+++ on the staff and whoever does the hiring to ensure they hire these quality employees. I thought Dutch Bros hired good employees--this place may give them a run for their money.
Great food and great customer service go hand in hand. Definitely coming back and an easy place...
Read moreAs a person on the go I eat out alot. I'm always looking for that different, creative, taste buds go wild food. I finally got the chance to eat here and the food overall was great and what I was looking for. Got the #2 with out marinara and it was phenomenal. Also got a side of garlic fries that were really good at first, but unfortunately got cold and soggy quick. Maybe less oil, not really sure, but that's why I'm not the cook. Amount of food was worth the dollar. The staff was friendly upbeat and very knowledgeable. You could see them work very efficiently, as a team, and one of the owners was working with the crew. Which is what I personally like to see; when management jumps in and not afraid to go back to the roots of were they ounce were. The only down side I had, was the part owner that was working seem to look at me constantly as if I were a crook or a criminal. He was more than happy to greet customers and talk to customers as they came in but for some reason wouldn't do it with me. I guess that's what I get for looking the rough and rugged part. I'm a six figure a year income and just shows how looks can be decieving. I look forward to returning and trying out there other menu items and suggest everyone to check it out despite the glitches I had. Everyone's taste buds are different and they sure know how to make them water...
