I haven't had a good Fish N' Chips in a good while. I was encouraged by some friends try going exploring around Fresno to find a nice place, and I settled on this quaint place. It's a cute little shop, I like the decor. I ordered the 2 piece cod meal and I chose the french fries as my side dish, all To Go.
First of all, the fish was very moist, and well cooked. I was a little disappointed that they didn't provide me any lemon or vinegar but the tartar sauce was still very good. Since I wasn't able to have the fish the way I prefer it I can't give the fish an entirely honest review, what I did have was a good experience. If I had been given vinegar and lemon, I can feel that it would have been even better.
The fries, however, were not. They were quite soggy and they tasted a little under cooked, despite the nice golden brown color to the edges. They are the kind of fries you pick up, see that they're floppy and squishy, and just know they aren't going to be very good. They were quite dry and they didn't come with any condiments to help get over that. Overall, the meal was a generous 50/50 of satisfaction and disappointment. I definitely see the potential in this place, but I feel like they need to work on their technique. As a place that offers "London Styled" fish and chips, I can tell you for a fact that they were not.
Overall, I'm largely dissatisfied with the meal I was given. But the quality of the fish has me considering giving it another chance and hoping to see if they provide better service...
Read moreThis was our first visit here. They had great combo choices, we ordered two regular fish & chips a fish calamari and chips and a fish & shrimp and chips combo. And a fried mushroom appetizer.
It was prepared quickly. Delivered to the table with all of the appropriate sauces. I've eaten lots of fish & chips from Monterey ca. to Canada and by far the Fish here was absolutely THE BEST I have ever eaten.
The batter was crisp and golden as compared to other places where the batter is crisp but filled with oil and very brown and heavy, the fish was cooked perfectly, not half raw and over cooked.
My son's calamari was cooked perfectly and not tough and rubbery. My wife's shrimp were very good as well.
Our mushrooms were battered and fried to perfection. Usually you get whole mushrooms that will squirt out boiling hot oil into your mouth even after the outside cools. These mushrooms were sliced and cooked which made them taste great!
You have to take the time to stop by and give them a try.
The tartar sauce was made in house as was...
Read moreI have not been here in a few years and I decided I wanted fish n chips. I gave the past raiting a good review and I'm feeling sorry I can't this time. As I entered, you seat yourself and order at the front and they bring it to you. I ordered their fish with fries and a medium bowl of chowder. When the food quickly arrived the portions seemed big except the chowder bowl. It was small for a medium size order. When I grabbed the fish to eat I noticed how greasy it was. As I put the fish back down after a bite, my fingers were covered with grease. I tore the fish in half since it was large, and the breading separated from the fish. There was more breading than fish. I left one whole piece on the plate as I couldn't eat anymore, just too greasy and full of breading. The chowder was average at best and probably could have gotten more and better from a store bought can. I was disappointed today and probably won't return and I hope the owners change their methods. The seasoned fries were...
