Overall terrible experience from start to finish. Once directed to our table, we were largely left alone and not “waited” on as would be expected from any restaurant. Their menu is on a website/app for the table which is convenient for them sure, but is completely useless if you are not familiar with traditional Chinese cuisine. Their menu items have NO DESCRIPTIONS leaving me to ask the only server/manager I could flag down to give me a “I’m just going to agree cause I either don’t understand what you’re saying or want to leave this interaction” agreement to my question on the similarity of a menu item. Once the item came, it was nothing like I expected and I was deeply disappointed based on my conversation with said server.
DISCLAIMER:
I DO NOT think this restaurant is intentionally mistreating guests.
Another thing that was upsetting was seeing the waiters/serves interactions with guest more culturally aligned with this restaurant compared to others, such as myself, a Hispanic male.
END DISCLAIMER:
Another thing that was very disappointing was the way the food came out. I had a table of 3 of which the first 2 peoples food came out prior to my own coming out. My friend ordered a side of meat and no joke, they brought out his SIDE of meet prior to his soup by about 5min. My own appetizer came out 10 min later from the first person getting their entree. My entree came out significantly later than all of the food at my table leaving my table mates with cold food or feeling rude for starting without me. I think this is a symptom of the menu website which in my opinion is a terrible idea for a restaurant since food tickets are created as soon as their are submitted and prepared in that order.
This place would need to have a serious overhaul in terms of customer experience for me to ever think about returning. The atmosphere is lackluster and feel like a wet tortilla feels to eat.
The only redeeming quality of this restaurant is an Indian cafe/bakery next door which I can’t recommend enough.
I left this place very disappointed and will likely not return. There are many other restaurants in the area within walking distance that I would...
Read moreBased on an instagram post by @explore.vina it seemed like Highland Noodles was going to be amazing and experiential … it was good, but it didn’t quite hit the mark. Additionally, the best part of fresh pulled noods is the show, pity I couldn’t really get one.
No lie they definitely hand pull the noodles there - but unlike most other restaurants it was so covered up and the staff hovered there by the windows - made it awkward to watch or film … I guess Vina had that all access to get their great videos. All of the in house made noodles stood up to the famous Lanzhou test, but there were some flavors in the specific dishes they were used in that let me down a bit.
The Lanzhou Hand Pulled Beef Noodle (Regular) had great noodles. I’m not personally a fan of the broth (had a bit of an aftertaste that I didn’t like) - but I’ll chalk that up to personal preference. I’ll stick to Sichuan style soups and still say this is worth ordering.
The spicy chicken seems to be their version of La Zi Ji Chicken - again it was pretty good, but just not as good as what I’ve had elsewhere. If I ate here again, I’d order this. The chicken was tender and cooked well.
The chicken stir fried noodle, we ordered with the knife cut noodles … and unlike the pictures menu it came out very pale and bland. We ate the chicken, tried the noodles, and called this one a loss.
Finally we had the Spicy Pork Ribs Incense Pot. It was awesome. Loved every bite. If it had wide flat noodles instead of so much cabbage and bamboo, I’d probably have ordered seconds to go. This is the flavors I was hoping for the whole time!
Ordering on your phone is easy, the service was fast and attentive, and the food comes out hot and fresh. I’m sure you’ll have a good time here - just skip the page called “specialty noodles” - mine was...
Read moreIt's Sunday after church, and I had a hankering for noodles. Enter Highland Noodles in Frisco!
This Chinese Noodle House is off of Preston Rd and Prestmont Place, offering hand pull noodle dishes. They are open for lunch from 11-3, and reopen for dinner from 5-9:30.
Upon entering, we were warmly welcomed, seated, and given instructions on how the ordering works. First, scan the QR code on the table, which takes you to the menu for ordering. This was our first time ordering this way, and we really enjoyed it! (If your food is jacked up, it's your own fault!)
I ordered the Lanzhou Hand Pull Beef Noodle Soup. In the ordering process, you are given the option of adding items to your dish(tea eggs, extra meat, etc...) but you also have a choice on the thickness and type of noodles! Thin, buckwheat edge. It really elevated the fresh, hand pull noodle experience for me. Plus, the dish was fabulous! The noodles had a great springy texture, and the flavor of the broth was delicate and unctuous. The beef pieces were super tender, and the soup was piping hot!
Love Potion #9 had Shrimp Fried Rice and he loved every grain of it! The portion was nice and well seasoned, with large whole pieces of shrimp. He also enjoyed a Pear Juice that was really good and refreshing.
The only drawback was that as it got busier, we were rushed to pay our bill. One gentleman bought us our check and told us to take our time. 10 minutes later, our waitress comes by with the check(which we already had) gave us the handheld device for payment, and preceeded to stand in front of the table until we had made the payment. We hadn't even been in the restaurant a full 45 minutes! That left a bad taste in my mouth.
If you're in Frisco, stop by and experience the indulgent, fresh noodle varieties offered at Highland...
