Updated in response to the owner:
I want to start by saying that it feels like there’s been some misunderstanding—I’m not writing this review based on a visit today, but from experiences over the past several days, weeks, months. It seems like assumptions were made as if it were related to the timing you sold out today so I hope this can help clear that up.
I’ve enjoyed this place and wanted to continue supporting it, which is why it’s disappointing to share this feedback. Over multiple visits, I’ve arrived only to find you sold out with no sign on the door. Whether you just haven’t gotten to placing the sign or whatever the issue there, it’s frustrating to walk in and be turned away without any notice, and I know other customers feel the same. I understand that social media posts and Google hours updates are helpful to some, but not everyone has social media or relies on those platforms.
I absolutely get that growing demand is the goal, and it’s clear you’re working hard. But communication is just as important as the products themselves. A quick sign posted up immediately goes a long way in respecting people’s time and loyalty. What’s been tough to see is that honest feedback has sometimes been met with defensiveness rather than accountability. None of us expect perfection, but owning those moments when things don’t go as planned helps build trust and connection.
It also seems like taking on too many things at once—custom orders, side projects—may be pulling focus from the core business, which affects the customer experience. A little more focus could really help the shop thrive.
I want to clarify that I’ve bumped up my stars because my intention is not to hurt your business at all but to give accurate, constructive feedback. I’ve genuinely enjoyed what you were able to offer when in stock and hope this review is taken in the spirit...
Read moreThese aren't just delicious and beautiful Vegan cakes and baked goods... these are straight up delicious by any standard. As the dairy-consuming spouse of someone with a dairy allergy, I have eaten a lot of mediocre vegan baked goods, and have seen a lot of vegan/dairy allergy friends get brainwashed into thinking a mediocre cake was good simply because it was the best they could find. The vegan (and gluten-free) baking world is plagued by places that try to make up for the fact that their stuff doesn't taste good by making it look really beautiful. Gilly's is DELICIOUS as well as beautiful. Seriously, her cakes and desserts, both vegan and gluten-free, are some of the best I've ever tasted -- not just the best vegan or gluten-free... some of the best OF ANY TYPE in the WORLD.
Her range of flavor options is creative, unique, and extremely delicious -- so many things I didn't think I'd like until I put it in my mouth and fell in love.
And her cakes are BEAUTIFUL. For our wedding, she made two incredibly unique cakes that wowed everyone, incorporated some very special personal things in super creative ways, and were DELICIOUS.
She has also been wonderful to work with in every encounter.
Go here for anything and everything sweet or baked if you are vegan or have a dairy or gluten allergy.
