Toshani Fab is not a safe place to shop. Urmila is quick to body shame you, tell you a size that you aren’t. I walked in and told her my size, she immediately said I was not that size and up sized me 2 sizes!!! Needless to say, she didn’t have anything for me except kurtas (and I told her I was shopping for a wedding…) She took my number down to see if her tailors would be able to do custom sizing for me in the timeline I needed it, in that same conversation she told me she wasn’t sure if her tailors would have enough frantic fabric to stitch me an outfit. I left the store in tears and such defeat. I’ve never had anyone speak to me the way she did. She also called me this week and told me they would have to put two outfits together to make something for me. I think some of it is a cultural communication issue, but body shaming is not ok!! We all come in all shapes and sizes and all want to feel beautiful in our Indian clothes!! And I’m not the only one that has had this experience...

I bought a black lehenga for my friend’s brother’s upcoming wedding here. My wife and I went on a Saturday afternoon to see if we could find some Bollywood attire for a friend’s 50th. We are not from India and the style was totally new to us. Nonetheless, Uni (the owner) greeted us with a beautiful smile and set us up with the perfect clothing. My wife looked absolutely beautiful in the her outfit. And she pick a perfect outfit for me that complimented my wife’s dress.

When we arrived at the party on the red carpet everyone was so amazed. More than a dozen women approached my wife inquiring about her attire, wanting to know where we got our clothing.

We felt so comfortable and were so happy! Thank you Uni for your help, kindness and extra effort that you gave by letting out a seam on my wife’s dress to make her feel even more comfortable!
