Burger 101 — Restaurant in Gadsden

Came through and grabbed a quick dinner at the tail end of a long drive home. This is a locally-owned burger joint! They have a drive-through if you're in an extra big hurry but I figured I'd come inside and unwind a bit before finishing the last leg of my journey.

It was clean inside, with a decent amount of indoor seating and a large outdoor patio too. I was a bit miffed to realize I'd stumbled in right behind a very large group of 10-12 people, but to my pleasant surprise, the staff got their orders in quickly and I didn't have to wait long. Everyone's food was out fast, too -- in total, I was waiting maybe 5-7 minutes. Not bad at all.

The staff was more friendly than I'd expect for a quick-service burger place, way nicer than your average Wendy's or McDonald's. They were super helpful and patient and seemed to be working hard.

The burgers are smash burgers -- think like Steak n Shake or Freddy's. That means if you're really hungry, you'd probably do better with a double!

I wasn't famished or anything, so I just got a single patty hamburger combo. The price was right -- wanna say something like $8, but can't remember exactly. Less than $10 for sure.

I can't remember what the standard burger has on it, but I got mine with lettuce, ketchup, and their special/comeback sauce, which to my tastes is your standard (albeit yummy) slightly vinegary, pale orange mayo/ketchup fusion. My burger was cooked nicely and the bun was soft, if a little greasy. My fries were standard but also cooked nicely and I found ketchup to dip them in easily. They make milkshakes if you want dessert, but I was eager to get back on the road.

Bathrooms appear to be for one person at a time, and whoever went in ahead of me was taking way too long for my patience, so can't comment on that, lol.

Ordered 2 combos total was $25.49. I gave the girl $40 cash. She didn't have change. I had a $10 which I said I would swap her for a $20. She did then had no idea how much change to give me. I told her $4.61. She found a calculator and said I was right. I handed the change to my husband and sat down. We were half way thru our meal and a man comes up, doesn't introduce himself and begins telling us the cashier gave us an extra $20. I told him I walked in with 2 $20 and a $10 and showed him our change. I also told him to count down the register as I would wait. He did this in front of other customers. He declined. He never said another word. I was ready to leave at this point and as I did my husband asked him as he was in fact counting down the register if it was correct. The man said no but it's our fault. This was our first time there and last. It was rather embarrassing and at no point did we do anything except help the cashier. The manager should have had her drawer stocked with change for 2 $20s. And if she needed help should have helped. I didn't even hand my change to my husband until we picked a table. Could have been handled much better than it was. There was not much of a wait to place my order. Staff was inviting, informative, and friendly. The food is prepared after your order is placed, so there is a slight wait for your order to arrive. I rated the food 4 out of 5 stars because some things need adjusting. The salad needs more meat and a little less lettuce. I ordered the Club Salad which was delicious but I was not pleased to only see one half of a boiled egg, 2 small grape tomatoes, and 2 slim short pieces of bacon. And half the top of the salad was covered with croutons and cheese which is the least expensive toppings. For the price of the salads they should have more of the main ingredients instead of a ton the cheaper toppings and lettuce. Also, after returning to my vehicle I realized that my childs drink had not been given to me initially so I had to go back inside and request it. Besides this visit I have ordered other items from the menu and they did not disappoint. The chicken fingers and fries are great along with the cheeseburger and fries.
