I stopped in for lunch while on a work trip from Jacksonville. I ordered the basic pepperoni. I wanted a basic fountain drink or coke, which pairs well as a staple with pie. There was no options for fountain drinks, only alternatives for canned products for more pricey brands like Virgils. They only had IPAs and microbrews. Lost opportunity here.
The pie itself was okay. The sauce was not watery and had a decent chunkiness to it, which I liked. Spice and flavor was okay, slightly acidic, could benefit from a little sweetness to cut it. The crust however was disappointing. Very thin, so no chew to it. Wood fired, but no flavor gained from smoke or wood selection. Crust was bland and flavorless. Needed some olive oil to give it any complexity. Had a powdery aftertaste and no semolina. Tasted like grandma's biscuit dough remnants. Pepperoni was not greasy, but it probably wouldn't hurt to mask the dry dough...
Overall, it was acceptable, but with tweaks to the recipe it could be pretty good or even great. It just left me wanting more and think of better pies I've had previously. Especially for the price point on a 10" personal, value isn't really there.
Service was good. Everyone I spoke to was friendly and helpful. But after ordering at the counter, there's no further hospitality.
Atmosphere was fun, bright, and youthful. Environment was clean...
Read moreMy wife’s birthday was yesterday, so, while she was out running errands, I called Humble Wood and ordered an Old Fashioned pizza (tomato sauce, sausage, pepperoni, roasted sweet peppers, red onions, mozzarella) and a large House salad for us to split. I picked it up at 6 pm just as they were pulling it out of the oven. Pick up was very easy, parked right next to the entrance, and the staff were very pleasant. The place has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and is sheltered nicely from Main Street traffic by the Baird Center walls. It’s a pleasant environment. Got the pizza and salad back home in 10 minutes, just as my wife arrived! She was pleased, and the pizza and salad were really great. Thin crust with excellent ingredients. The House salad had a variety of very fresh ingredients with a nice, creamy green dressing on the side! Our dinner was delightful! We will...
Read moreI truly liked the pizza, pretty tasty. Sitting on stone wasn't much fun. Tipping in advance is getting boring, especially when the only thing I didn't do was cook or deliver the pizza the 20 feet to the table. The waitress was very nice but told us the napkins, condiments, etc. were on the cart. My friend got a drink from the cooler, and it turned out to be a prebiotic soda. Overall, it wasn't a welcoming environment. I would have considered takeout an option, but some jackass claiming to be the owner of South Main Station followed us to our vehicle aggressively questioning about why we were there. Twice I explained we ate lunch in the pizza joint. The questions continued until we just walked away. I made it clear we would never spend another penny on in any of the businesses at South...
