I seem to find a reason to stop by Boxcar when I'm in Gainesville. Maybe because it's housed in an old train depot (I'm a nerd like that), maybe because it's surrounded a beautiful vibrant park, or maybe just because it's cool. Cool in a very laid back, come on in an have a beer and relax kinda way. If you wanna laugh, come out on the first Friday and enjoy some comedy. You wanna let out your inner rockstar, come out on Thursday for karaoke. (Check their Facebook page for DJ's & local band performances too). Or if you just wanna hang out and let the day peacefully pass into the night while you're watching downtown G'ville start to take life - this place is cool. They do have food options and Humble Woodfire Pizza is parked right outside and Pop-a-Top is a few steps away. I like to grab something local (especially tamales from Tamal) and pick a spot to sit down and enjoy with a cold local brew (especially a 72 from First Magnitude). Laid back open atmosphere with games to play(corn hole, arcade games, etc.), usually some friendly people playing frisbee or soccer(join!), open seating, able to bring/order food from pop-a-top and good selection of beers. A habitual pit-stop on the way back from my bike rides down the Gainesville-Hawthorne trail. When I think back to my time in Gainesville, this will be one of the most prominent places I will remember.
