Went there for Labor Day. They have patio seating, but it's not pet friendly. We were told because it's a holiday and they are busy, they aren't doing ayce and only a la carte, so I was super confused as to why they gave our table ayce menus if that wasn't even available. They also did not have majority of the bubble tea. We went around 230pm, the restaurant was barely filled, so I'm again confused as to why they didn't prepare for the "rush" of the holiday.
We ordered soup dumplings, shrimp dumplings, pork&shrimp dumplings, pork spare ribs with garlic, roasted pork buns, sticky rice with lotus leaf, pineapple fried rice, purple yolk buns, golden buns. Everything was mediocre. They didn't have several dim sum classic (shrimp rice rolls/crepes, or pineapple buns).
As some other reviewers said, tasted like they brought stuff frozen and reheated it. Soup dumplings skin was thick. Charged $12 for barely any soup and filling. You're better off getting the soup dumplings they sell at Costco. Shrimp dumplings were sad. There were only 3 pieces (usually 4 at any other dim sum location). Shrimps were small. Pork&shrimp dumplings was meh-- seems like they just put a tiny piece of shrimp on top and no shrimp in the actual dumpling filling. Roast pork buns tasted and looked like they came from grocery store freezers. Sticky rice lotus leaf was so disappointing -- only 1 measly lotus leaf sticky rice, when there are usually two or one big one. Sticky rice had too much water so it was soggy. Pineapple fried rice took forever. The rice was undercooked and lacks flavor. Purple yolk buns were the only thing that I would get again and that's just bc it was piping hot. Still felt like it came from the freezer though. Golden bun as it was described to me had a yolk filling inside. There was no yolk. It literally was a pan fried bun with condensed milk.
Everyone keeps saying, "it's always hard the first few weeks when a restaurant open". False, this a franchise of sort as they have other locations in the DMV area. Additionally, I would expect them to put their best foot (or rather food) forward when they just open. So that's just poor excuse for the restaurant that should have been prepared. They shouldnt open if they didn't anticipate for these things. Keep in mind, the restaurant wasn't even at capacity! For the price they are charging, I expect better food quality and experience. The server didn't even know what was on the menu, and what he described was not what we got.
I would not recommend this place for the price, quality of food, and overall experience. If any of you are thinking of bringing your Asian/chinese parents here, save yourself the embarrassment, and the guaranteed questioning from them, of why you guys are wasting money here. Save face, don't come here. It's a big...
Read moreHold on to your seat 😕 We both got the 2hr "Option B". First ordered pineapple shrimp fried rice, 2 egg rolls, then pan fried beef wonton. The pineapple shrimp fried rice came out a little burnt in the top and there was only 1 piece of pineapple. No seasoning or onion, only rice, 1 pineapple, and 4 unseasoned shrimp. The wontons smelled good, but when I cut into it, a bunch of oil came out. All I could taste was oil. The egg rolls came out last and they were super oily and inedible. I really did try to enjoy but it was not possible. My husband got chicken fried rice which was very tasty, lots of flavor; including General Tso chicken and fried chicken wings. The wings were not flavorful, the Gen Tso chicken itself had no seasoning, just the sauce was good. What made me SMH was they only put 1 piece of broccoli on the plate when it was served. We sent back the wonton & the egg rolss. Since the chicken fried rice was the only tasty dish this far, we ordered another one... mistake. The chicken was pink inside. Now- we cook amazing food at home and know that chicken isn't supposed to be pink and we use cornstarch to thicken sauces as needed. After bringing it to the wait staff attention, she came back with the plate and told us that the cook said the cornstarch makes the chicken pink. ARE YOU SERIOUS. We were as polite as possible, but we were reaching our limit. We told her again that we cook with cornstarch and never ever had it made my chicken pink. We asked for the bill thinking that we'd at least pay for one person, but they charged us full price. We kindly told them that it wasn't acceptable, we should only pay for one person, were there for only 30 minutes, and ordered enough edible food for one person. She came back and said she could only give us a discount. My husband told her it's not okay but we'll take whatever just to leave. They only gave us a 15% discount but had the audacity to add a 17% gratuity to the bill. I immediately got up to get a menu because no where did I read that there was an automatic gratuity added to the bill- only for parties of 6 or more. We have never not left a tip anywhere regardless of service, and we weren't going to start tonight, but as a consumer we should have the choice to leave a tip OR at least have it in the menu so the consumer can choose whether or not to eat there. Unreal experience- and I would never recommend...
Read moreThis newly opened Chinese restaurant boasts a refined and elegant decor, with ample space between tables, making the dining experience quite comfortable. One of the standout features is its location by the lake at Washingtonian. On a pleasant day, dining in the outdoor seating area while enjoying the scenic view of the lake is truly delightful.
The staff are warm, attentive, and clearly dedicated to providing thoughtful service.
This restaurant shares the same owner as Han Palace, and the menu is almost identical. However, the flavors don't quite measure up to Han Palace. I ordered a few dishes that I often enjoy at Han Palace:
Peking Duck ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The duck meat was tender, but the skin was a bit too thick. The dipping sauce was served in a rather small portion, and the pancakes were slightly soggy and stuck together. The cucumber strips weren't as fresh as they should have been, showing some yellowing and dryness. The scallion strips were slightly old, with one or two pieces that were tough to chew.
Crispy Eggplant ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This dish is a classic example of Americanized Chinese cuisine, featuring a crispy exterior coated in a sweet and sour sauce. As far as Americanized Chinese dishes go, this one is well-executed—the eggplant is tender, the skin is crispy, and the sweet and sour sauce is perfectly balanced.
Steamed Shrimp Dumplings ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The flavor was good, but the dumplings seemed slightly smaller compared to those at Han Palace—unless my memory is playing tricks on me?
Cured Sausage and Pork Belly Duo 🌟🌟🌟🌟
The portion size was smaller than expected, especially compared to Han Palace. However, the cured sausage was incredibly fragrant, and the pork belly had a delightful flavor. It's worth noting that the fat in the pork belly was semi-transparent, indicating a high level of craftsmanship in its preparation.
Crab Meat and Fish Maw Soup with asparagus ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The taste was excellent, and the portion was generous. However, I didn't spot any bamboo shoots, and the crab meat was also somewhat elusive.
XO Sauce Lotus with Fish Fillet ⭐️⭐️
This dish was quite ordinary. The entire dish was stained by the dark soy sauce, losing the refreshing quality it should have had.
The free parking garage is behind the restaurant. Easy to find a part lot.
20% gratuity will be added for a group...
