I want to preface this review by saying all of the staff we encountered were pleasant and helpful. No issues with the staff, generally.
Booked for a 5 night stay. On the second day, on the way out, I stopped by the front desk to request housekeeping service for the next day. I find out that someone has modified the reservation and had us as checking out that day! Luckily they had the availability to keep us in our room for our full stay and they gave us the pre-booked rate that was on our reservation. But how in the world would this even happen? We never requested a change to our reservation. Very odd, and glad it was caught before it was an issue. Staff resolved it quickly and it was only a minor quirk.
Rooms: The rooms are smaller than what they appear like in the photos. Honestly only slightly bigger than many regular hotel rooms. They are clean enough for my expectations. However, the bed was quite honestly the worst hotel bed I've ever slept on. It's like the mattress is made of cotton balls or something. You sink all the way in and then you can't move. Pillows were equally bad. I did not get a good night sleep the entire time I stayed. There is also traffic noise from the nearby freeway that is audible even from the opposite side of the building. This was minor and to be expected given the location.
Breakfast: adequate, but just barely. Taste and cleanliness is in line with other hotel breakfast buffets but the options were pretty limited.
Location is nice because it is close to Rio and all of the shopping, restaurants, and kid's playground/activities. Contrary to other hotels nearby, parking is free here.
One last gripe: at the majority of hotels I've stayed in, if you forget a small toiletry item they are usually happy to provide it at the front desk. Here, if you forget something, they ask you to buy it from their little store at a ridiculous markup. I forgot 1 small item and they wanted $5 for it. I couldn't bring myself to do it and drove over to Target instead, just on principle. This is the first time I've encountered this and it seems like the management of this hotel forgot they are in the HOSPITALITY industry - in which it is pretty standard to provide these small items as a courtesy to guests.
We won't be staying here again. Management: get some new mattresses and pillows, stop nickel and diming for courtesy items, and figure out how to keep...
Read moreThis is our go to hotel in the Gaithersburg area for many years. Made our reservation a month ahead of our dates at the Marriott web site which we usually find the best rates. A week ahead of time I checked again and noted the rates dropped so I canceled the first reservation and made another - saving $100.||Check in was by Chantel. She was very friendly and hospitable at the check in. She used my name and recognized our Titanium status on Marriott Bonvoy. She asked for ID and a credit card and then explained we could have an item from the sundry area. She did well to explain housekeeping and the hours of breakfast and that coffee was available in the lobby until 7 pm daily.||Our room 432 was nicely clean. No issues noted from a cleanliness perspective. The negative of the room is the old tub shower which was slippery; it is very difficult to read the bulk amenity containers; and the bed was not comfortable. I think the bed is in need of replacement. It was nice to have a mini fridge although one of my soda's froze up. Be sure to ask for a room that is not on the I270 side for quieter stay. Wifi worked great no issues although it did make me resign in a couple of days of our 5 night stay. ||We had housekeeping every day do a room refresh and it was done as requested with making the bed and new towels. ||Breakfast was fine but a bit boring. I was disappointed that this is one of few hotels that doesn't do waffles at breakfast. Scrambled eggs and sausage every day of our 5 night stay. They do offer bagels and English muffins but no toasting bread. Hot and cold cereal was offered, along with yogurts, hard cooked eggs, lots of toppings for cereals and a juice machine. The attendants at breakfast were all very hard working keeping the buffet stocked and tables cleared. It was very busy with tour buses and teams every morning. They should be commended for their hard work.||We met a wonderful and hospitable person on the night shift, her name is Allison and she should be commended by management for her smile, and friendly way...
