I've been going to this establishment for over 20 years. It's a local favorite and eveytime I'm back in town it's my first stop. Last Monday I ordered my usual a #2 (ham, salami, provolone sandwich) and a #26 (broccoli, cauliflower, cheese potato). For two days I was sick with food poisoning. I contacted the owner to let him know and he wasn't available. The manager on duty said sorry. Didn't even ask me if I was ok or if I wanted a refund, which is all I wanted. I even went in when I felt better to talk to the owner and was completely ignored!! How frustrating to give you 20+ years of service and ignore me. Never will I give money to boxcar express or as it used to be call hungry hobo. Eric Leiber is a terrible business owner and ignores the concerns of his customers. It's all about making money with him. As a kid I used to go so much when my mom and I walked in they already knew what we wanted and would prepare our order. That used to mean a lot, not anymore. He has these young kids who don't know what they're doing and don't even greet you when you come to order. They're in the back talking and get to you when they're finished with their conversations. It's a shame how this business is not what it used to be. I'll take my business to hungry hobo in the Quad Cities...

COVID Updare: The check out employee was wearing her mask below the nose as she checked us out and then she went to the kitchen with her nose hanging out. Even as they came in and left, customers were not wearing masks. On the plus side, they have created a drive through and do curbside pickups the dividers inside seem useless because they do not go all the way down to the back of the booths and have spaces at the sides. (See photos.)
Re-review: a lot depends on who is working. Today it was 85 degrees inside. They were out of tea and refused to make more. Two employees were talking about being disgusted with the job and ready to go home. Very rude. Food was okay. There was cheese all over the outside of the containers.
Original review: Excellent baked potatoes. The sandwiches are huge. Try the pumpernickel bread; it is the...
Read moreSome may remember this as Hungry Hobo, the only thing changed is the name so don't worry. For new customers its a train type motif, as you probably guessed from the name. It's kind of cafeteria style, ordering on one end and moving down to drinks and some desserts before paying.
If you are a baked potato lover you'll love this place. They offer a wide range of potatoes with various toppings, these are not your average dinner potato, these are huge mutant potatoes. Around 5 bucks is what you'll pay for just about everything, so the prices are great, and no real wait to get your food. They also serve sub sandwiches, although they use a sweet bread which I am not a fan of but that is my personal preference. Regardless the sandwiches are good. I almost always order the supreme nacho add lettuce, the nacho cheese IS the best part of this place. No orange stadium cheese here! A trip to, through, or past Galesburg isn't complete without...
