I love eating at Golden Coral but had a bad experience this time. While having spent a really nice long sunny day at the beach, my wife and I decided to stop at Golden Coral before heading back to Houston. It was packed but we got a table way in the back room. There was a waitress and a waiter taking care of the tables in our area. Not once did either come greet our table. So ok, it seemed that them cleaning tables was way more important. Then came the moment we needed a refills on our drinks. The waiter walked by our table and didn't even look and I realized he didn't care to wait on us so I got up and went to the refill station myself. A young waiter was there so I asked him to refill our drinks and he did, except he didn't put any ice in my tea. I asked him if he could add some ice and he told me they didn't have any at that station. This basically made me never want to go back there again and it's sad cause everytime we go to Galveston we usually eat here. The food was really great and the steaks were better than the ones they serve here in Houston, but were a little too salty for my wife. I guess i can deal with crappy service as long as the food is great but I definitely didn't leave a tip seeing that were didn't even have a...
Read moreHaving worked in many food service jobs and utilizing buffets for their value while living on the road traveling state to state for work for half a decade, I've been to more buffet restaurants than I can remember. Having seen the full spectrum, ranging from "run away while you still can" level of health code violations, to brand new modern locations where I was the first person to sit in the chair I ate at... this location ranks among some of the best ones I've been to. Which is saying a lot.
Many buffets gravitate towards the low end of the spectrum to be honest. Some places you just know that you're gambling with possible emergency stops at gas stations you'd rather not use, but are left with little choice in the matter due to the poor decision of choosing economy over something fancier where you get the one thing you ordered. This location does not fall in that category.
Staff was friendly and the food, even though it wasn't an overly busy time, was kept straight from the kitchen fresh. Dining area was well maintained as well, and the other patrons friendly enough to strike up random conversations...
Read moreFour stars went up on its own, not due to my rating. Staff works hard; young man at register was calm competent, gracious when we departed. Those working the line buffets were focused and kept the area clean. However, there was one younger staff /management individual who was loud, rude to other staff, trying desperately to call attention to himself in his assigned role. Calling out from kitchen area to other guests of his age bracket, and former acquaintance, in a ridiculous display of street jabber, his antics we're childish. Besides being very unprofessional, he was running from one station to another making a disturbance where ever he went. If I were an owner of this Golden Corral, I'd replace him in a heartbeat with someone else who has the control and professionalism required in an establisment where patrons don't want a stomach ache with every bite they have to swallow. On another level, I would detest having to work with someone as manic as this kid is. Something is wrong with the way he comports himself. If he's an owners relative,...
