I would not stay here again. Hotel had a strange smell when entering the lobby. Not terrible just strangely unfamiliar. I think mold or mildew. Just seemed wet all the time even though I never actually saw mold/mildew I feel it was there EVERYWHERE. Sand all over the entrance mat which immediately gives you the crunchy feet beach feeling.
Check in advised that hotel staff will not enter your room during your stay so if you need towels or anything else you must visit the front desk. Advised that trash can be put in the hallway along with dirty towels. But cleaning is only for empty rooms.
Had a difficult time when entering the room figuring out how to turn on the lights. There isn't wall switches but each lamp has to be turned on individually. Immediately had to go back downstairs and ask for a light bulb for the desk lamp which didn't have one.
Hallway carpets are stained in various places and in some spots concrete floor is showing and carpet is gone all together. The down elevator button doesn't work on either elevator and you have to push the up button to call the elevator regardless of which direction you're going.
Bathroom door doesn't lock so don't expect any privacy if you have children. Tiny shampoo, conditioner and body soap for 1x use. There is bar handsoap and a makeup remover wipe.
Room is pretty clean and beds are comfy. However, did wipe down all the surfaces upon arrival though because there seemed to be an oily film on the bed table so I was a little creeped out.
One bed sounded like it was going to come crashing down with even the slightest movement. It didn't effect comfort or sleep but it was loud and a little scary. Not sure what was going on there.
Nice selections on the TV. There is Netflix as well as other channels like Paramount etc
There is a screen shade and a blackout shade in the room depending on your preference but neither worked with the pull chains. We had to roll up the blackout shade and set it on top of the tracks to get any light in the room. Had to take out the screen style shade and roll it down by hand and replace it to use it. There is also a small side window to let extra light in.
Breakfast included waffle stations, eggs, microwaved sausage links that were not browned at all and kind of soggy. They had bread for toasting but no bagels. Some small cold muffins like they had been recently thawed. Small strawberry or peach yogurts were available. Dry cereal with 2% milk. No whole milk. Apple and orange juice were also available as well as bananas and Jif peanut butter. Waffle station and jelly and syrup for the waffles also there. Coffee and tea and flavored creamer available.
The room phone was a joke. There are no buttons or guide. I was able to hear messages dating back to November 2024 although it's August 2025. I was never able to call the front desk however.
Instant coffee in the room with a small coffee maker.
Ceilings/floors are thin. I finally figured out the room upstairs is being vacuumed and we were not actually about to be sucked out of the room by a tornado.
Pool was clean and they were cleaning it this morning.
I just expected more from La Quinta and especially for what we paid. I could've stayed at Baymont which I've enjoyed in the past or Holiday Inn for the...
Read moreI chose this hotel for me, my husband and daughter because of childhood memories where my parents got our family a hotel here when we went to the coast over a decade ago. Should’ve known things have changed. I am so upset I even have to put a review that is bad but I feel people should know the truth. For how rude and dirty the hotel was with crappy amenities, do not spend the money here. I paid about 350$ for two rooms for ONE night, remind you that check in is at 4pm. I got two rooms because my husband snores so loud and I didn’t want him to wake our baby. I paid in advance a week ahead. When I arrived to see if I could check in early so my baby could nap at about 2pm, they said no. I arrive at 4:30 to check in after a couple hours at the beach instead just to find out my husband and my rooms were on different floors. I asked about why they weren’t next to each other but the man at the front desk just shut me down quickly saying “no they’re not next to each others and no we can’t move you.” So I took my ONE key card for room 321 and my husband got TWO key cards for his room on the second floor (217). I went to my room ready to settle down with my very young child and feed her dinner. Just to find out that I didn’t have a microwave in my room to heat up my leftovers from lunch or anything I brought in our cooler so then we had to order pizza for delivery for dinner because I was too exhausted from driving HOURS to the coast and spending a few hours on the beach to move rooms. Even just to my husbands room which was both cleaner and HAD A MICROWAVE. The room was dirty- you could visibly see dust especially on the coffee area, trash in my mini fridge freezer, you could feel the sticky floor, see the disgusting stains on the floor under the trash cans, debris and trash under the couch the trash cans hadn’t been cleaned and the room smelled of mold and don’t even get me started on the parking. My husband had to go to the store at about 10 and had to park in the fire lane because there were not enough spots for everyone. That night we also heard a LOT of noise both upstairs and down and even outside which made me anxious putting my child to sleep. Some people in the parking lot had their car alarm going for a solid 15 minutes. The shower was an awful trickle and didn’t get very hot. No wine sold at the front desk but other crap and junk is like Doritos and sodas. The pool was small and the lift chairs broken which is ghetto. It also reeked of trash at the pool, we didn’t stay more than 20 mins. We tried to enjoy the hot tub with our baby before leaving town. Terrible idea. Will just be going to another hotel for like 500$ a night and will get one room. Guess this is the new motel 6. Would not recommend if you want your moneys worth. Location is literally the only thing that made this semi worth the money. Oh and breakfast even sucked. Just a bunch of bull. Cheap smoked sausage slices with cold eggs and cereal and crap like that. And my husband scoped it out at 6:30!!!! Breakfast is only 6-9. Had to figure out what to feed my baby for breakfast since there wasn’t a microwave and very crappy food provided...
Read moreWe stayed at this La Quinta for two nights, and while there were some positive aspects, the negatives far outweighed them.
Starting with the good: the lobby was spacious and looked clean, and check-in was smooth and quick. The pool area was decent, though the hot tub was barely warm. The workout room looked nice, but we didn’t use it. Breakfast on the first day was a highlight—real eggs, kielbasa sausage, bread and various muffins. However, I wish the bread and muffins were individually wrapped for safety, especially for those with allergies.
Unfortunately, the second day’s breakfast was a disappointment. The eggs were reconstituted powdered eggs (which contain dairy, so I couldn’t eat them), and the sausage was regular breakfast sausage that wasn’t quite warm enough.
Once we left the ground floor, the experience worsened. We stayed on the 5th floor (Room 519), and the hallways reeked of mildew. Each room’s entrance had bleach stains on the carpet. When we entered our room, we were hit with an overwhelming smell of mold and mildew. The room felt damp, cold, and unpleasant. After buying an air purifier, we still had a terrible night’s sleep and woke up with sore throats and stuffy noses.
The room’s appearance seemed incredibly run-down for a hotel that’s only five years old. There were rips in the wallpaper, dirty walls and floors, visible mold/mildew around the baseboards, behind the bed, on the artwork, and even around the smoke detector, which flashed a bright light above the bed all night long. Our couch had a dried-up white substance on it, which was disturbing to say the least. One of our lamps didn't work. The shower head was a joke - very little water came out.
On the bright side, the parking lot was a great size, well-lit, but had a lot of trash in the grassy areas, which detracted from its overall appearance.
I mentioned the mildew smell and room condition to the staff upon checkout, but the employee seemed surprised, which was odd since other guests we spoke with had the same complaint. The mildew smell worsened the higher up you went in the hotel. Management acted as if this was news to them and blamed it on Hurricane Beryl, even though they admitted the hotel didn’t sustain any flooding or damage.
For a hotel that’s only five years old, I expected so much more. While the lobby and parking were nice, the moldy smell, damp environment, and poor room maintenance made for a very uncomfortable stay. I wouldn’t recommend this location unless these issues are seriously addressed.
(Eta: The dirty towel was from me placing it under my feet and scooting it from the hotel room entrance to across the room to the AC unit. Also, when we got home that night we had to wash EVERYTHING that was cloth as it all...
