What do you get when you take away flavor and shrink portion sizes? You get American Pizza and Grill Restaurant in Garapan, Saipan. Very Un-American. Long gone are the Glory Days of the former ”Bobby Cadillacs.” Service is horrendous, servers are tired and crabby, and the food is terrible. If you were to look up overpriced bland tasting American classic food in Wiki, you would find a picture of American Pizza and Grill. I ordered a cheeseburger with a macaroni salad side and hamburger steak with a baked potato. Who in their right mind would top a baked potato with Velveeta cheese? Velveeta isn't even cheese. The Hamburger steak was raw in the center. For a minute there, I thought I ordered steak tartare. When I complained, the female cook put on her crabby charm and offered a salad or ice cream. I said no thanks and requested a refund. She didn't give up negotiating; she then said she would refund only half of the cost of the hamburger steak because of half of the dish was eaten. Where did this lady come from, and where did she get her customer service training? She eventually gave in and refunded the raw hamburger steak in full. My meal cost USD 42.00. I could've spent half that at McDonald's and walked away satisfied. AVOID American Pizza and Grill at all costs. Spend your hard-earned money elsewhere....
Read moreAmerican Pizza is decent. I reckon it’s considerably in the lower end of Saipan’s restaurants in terms of its value with its prices and food.
First off, the customer service is pretty good. Most of the waiters you encounter are accommodating enough for their customers. Couple that with the dazzling lights hanging from the ceilings and just an amazing themed setup and entrancing background soundtrack, and you get a pretty great vibe going for you.
The food is good, don’t get me wrong, but my eyebrows must be raised when a ten inch pizza costs $20. The pizza was good though, it was really cheesy, the dough was nice, and the toppings were great, but does not justify its insane price. The empanadas I ordered were fine. Its pork was a little dry and lacked a little flavor, which is why I recommend to use the sauces offered, it helps a lot. The pastas were great. Sauce was spectacular, garlic bread was superb, and was overall the spotlight of the show.
I’m not completely dismissing this place. It’s just that to me, yeah, the food is great, but the prices given to some of these dishes are just a little off-putting. Almost evocative of a tourist trap.
TL;DR: A somewhat good eatery with above-average food, though attached to it are...
