We've been going to Bear Lake for years. We haven't tried all of the places in the area to eat but the ones we have been to have just been ok. Until eating at Ruca's it's been hard to find a place that actually offers healthier choices besides burgers, pizza and fried food. You have to be looking for it or you'll pass it. It's kind of hard to notice if you're not paying attention. The parking lot is dirt and all seating is outside. Which is nice on warm days, but on cold windier days you may end up eating in your car. They actually don't even offer burgers or fried food. We had a few different meals here so we were able to try some different foods on the menu. They offer fresh made sandwiches and salads. I had a French dip sandwich which was pretty good, my son had a turkey sandwich which was really good and a pretty decent size. My wife and oldest kept fighting over the chips. Lol. My wife had a salad, her only gripe about it was she wished that they used Romaine Lettuce instead of Iceberg Lettuce. Aebleskivers which were also amazing. We make these at home and kept wondering how they make them perfectly round. They also offer different flavors of toppings for them. We also tried the shakes and also liked them very much. They are very creamy, smooth and mixed very well. I would have to say that they are perfect size for one person. My wife and I shared one and it was enough but once again they are very tasty and mixed well we should have just each got one. My wife loved the coffee here. I was sad because the last day I left I noticed they offered pumpkin spice latte and I missed the boat. Hopefully next time. They have 2 separate corn hole games. The staff was also friendly. I hope they continue to do well so I can keep going here every...
Read moreI was pleasantly surprised by this new addition to Garden City! They serve both breakfast and lunch here! Breakfasts include waffles and Aeblelskivers (Danish breakfast pancakes). Lunch includes sandwiches and salads. They have Coke products, coffees, teas, and shakes. I have only been here for breakfast and I highly recommend it! If you've never tried an Aeblelskiver, just do it - you won't regret it! I look forward to stopping here for lunch in the future. The last time we came here (on a Sunday morning) they ran out of batter. I don't really know how that happens at a place like this (when their staple breakfast requires batter), but I'm going to give them a break, as they just recently opened. Maybe they don't realize that there are really only two restaurants open on Sunday mornings in Garden City, so they should stock up and plan for bigger crowds. I'm hoping this was a fluke accident and will be corrected as the summer goes on. In any case, this restaurant only has outdoor seating - which is great during the summer at Bear Lake anyway. I didn't notice a restroom. There is Cornhole for visitors to occupy their wait times. ...
Read moreEDIT: the wait was really long. Told us 35min, ended up being 1hr10min. The Aeblskeivers seem to be the main attraction, all other breakfast is nothing special. If you see a long line, I might recommend somewhere else.
The Aeblskeivers (or however you spell them) are good, the sandwich was fine.
We got the strawberry Aeblskeivers and those were good. It’s ideal to eat these while they are hot. Might consider asking if they can heat yours up if they come out cold.
EDIT: we came again a year later. Can’t fault a place for a long wait because it’s not their fault they are popular, but a 30minute wait turned into 1hr 15 minutes and totally put a rut in our morning. If you see a long line, expect +1hr plus and don’t believe if they tell you less. Probably head somewhere else.
We also got the Ruca sandwich. Good, pretty nothing amazing. If you are a hungry guy, idk if this would fill you up.
I would come back and try new Aeblskeivers, and maybe a different sandwich. It’s a popular spot, expect a wait. Cool outdoor sitting area....
