We were on the road going through Georgia, Hungry for some barbecue, so we did a search of barbecue near me. The original place we ended up at was closed, Only open a few days a week. So we kept on driving when my husband, Out of the corner of his eyes, Saw the sign for smokey's barbecue and we pulled over. It was only a small trailer on a corner lot next to a lime tree. It was a sweltering hot humid day in the 90's. Some people were standing outside next to the trailer waiting to order. Others were jumping in and out of their air-conditioned cars waiting for their number to be called. The wait was very long hence the service score of 3. My husband and I took turns waiting in the heat to order. When it was our turn I ended up ordering. We didn't have Rib money since we were traveling on a budget and this was our splurge for the day. We came hungry and ready to eat. Our hearts were set on pulled pork. To my dismay they were out. Beef brisket was a 30 minute wait but they had chicken ready to go. Chicken "sandwich" it was. Once we received our order, it was package in a Styrofoam box. There was two pieces of bread in my box and my husband's. I had what looked like several thighs chopped into 3rds bones and all. My husband had legs. Clearly it wasn't a conventional "sandwich" but a box of bbq chicken oddly cut into pieces with bones with some bread thrown in. Once we received our order we inhaled it. The chicken was moist and tender. It was messy with bbq sauce and so delicious. Each portion was 8$ I thanked the chef. My only complaint is I didn't get to try the pulled pork or the...
Read moreStopped by this place as a spur of the moment thing.. kind of a last minute spontaneity. This place was quiet and suprisengly had a little dining area.. the outside is a bit to be desired, but I try to give every place a chance and I'm glad I did. I love BBQ and this was right on my way. The ribs are pork and was falling off the bones, and the baked beans were creamy just how I like it, not too sweet, not to sauced. The customer service is whats to be expected in a small place like this in a busy passing area, southern hospitality 😁. Its a bit different, but I care about the cleanliness and the food which seemed to be right in place, the prices are reasonable, and I mean, who doesn't love BBQ?? 😊. I had the kids try some to get their opinion and one said, " now that's what I'm talking about!" Lol, and the other asked, " why does the mac n cheese taste tangy? " it had a taste we can only describe as bitter/vinegar like 🤷🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️. The overall was good, no food poisening or sickness. Let us know if you visit and what the food taste like for consistant...
Read moreI'm visiting the city of Savannah and I hadn't had anything to eat since 530am today and it's now 3pm. The work I was doing required a full stomach, rest and muscles. I was on empty, literally.
I typed in "food" in Google maps and this place was the closest. I hadn't had BBQ in a while. My wife and I have a rule if the BBQ spot doesn't have sausage, we don't stop. Smokey's has sausage and I ordered it.
I must say the lady behind the counter was a joy to order with as she had gospel music in the background. I ordered number 19, and my 2 meats were sausage and chopped bone-in chicken, with macaroni and baked beans, sweet tea and cornbread. Grand total for me was $22 and it was worth every penny.
Good food in Savannah is hard to find. It's not the tourist spots you should visit. It's the small places that might not deliver and seem to be in their customer friendly location for a long time.
I'll be back with my family and tonight, I'm sharing my leftovers with my sister and we probably won't finish them all. You get...
