My husband and I went there for a romantic dinner. We had rented a cabin and were looking forward to what we hoped would be a great meal. We arrived about 8:00 pm. We were so disappointed in this restaurant. First of all, although there were plenty of other places to seat us, they gave us a table right near the kitchen. Mexican soccer was on the television in the room where they sat us. The volume was so high (to allow the kitchen help to hear, I guess) that we could barely talk to each other. We ordered fajitas for two and I went to the ladies room which was rundown. There had obviously been no soap in the soap dispenser for a long time. The empty bag of soap had hardened and there was no other soap. I could not help but think of the female staff. No soap to wash their hands after using the toilet?! Gross. I told an employee but they were not interested. I watched him continue cleaning up tables and later, start vacuuming around patrons still eating. When the food came out, they brought the sizzling hot plate of fajitas and the side items (sour cream, lettuce, tomato) and one small plate that had the tortillas on it. There was no plate to set anything on so you would have to hold the fajita in your hand the whole time. My husband asked for a plate and the waiter (with attitude) put down a small rectangular plate with a big chip in it. Just one though so he had to ask again for me. Meanwhile, a waiter brought out silverware to wrap while he watched soccer, I guess. He was right in front of my husband, facing him so we had no privacy. The waiter kept staring at my husband until it felt like the guy was sitting with us. Meanwhile, I was getting a headache from the kitchen noise and blaring Spanish soccer announcer. My husband got up and looked around for another table. There were lots of other tables so we attempted to salvage our dinner date by moving to a room away from the kitchen and loud sports announcer. It was obvious we were unhappy but no one asked why we were moving. It took us three trips each to move our food and drinks, while the silverware roller looked on, never even offering to assist us. . He started speaking to our waiter in Spanish, disparaging comments about us but neither waiters asked what was wrong or offered to help us move to another table.
We sat at the new table. My husband speaks Spanish so we got to-go boxes and took our food back to the cabin. As were were leaving, I let the waiters know that my husband understood them. The food was not very good either. We go to Blue Ridge often but will never return to that restaurant, nor will our entire family reunion this summer. We went to a play the next night and told a group about our ridiculous experience at Monte Alban. Very short-sighted of this restaurant! Bad news travels much faster than good news. There are great restaurants in Blue Ridge. Monte Allban is not one of them. Our advice, go anywhere else. Taco Bell would be a...
Read moreI wish I could give this restaurant a ZERO. I have no idea how they have four stars. When we got there, I asked the waiter for tea with lemon. He forgot my lemon so then I asked for one and he looked at me and walked right past me with out saying a word. The place was not crowded by any means and it took us an HOUR to get our food. Let me start by saying we just waited an HOUR to get our food and our grandfathers fajitas weren't even sizzling. None of our food was hot. It was warm but not hot. Why wait an hour if our food wasn't even just cooked. My brother and niece LOVE Mexican. My niece only had a taco with meat and cheese and she wouldn't eat it and my brother eats everything but wouldn't eat his food. I had the taco salad along with my grandmother, mother, and sister in law. The chicken was AWFUL. It did not taste like real chicken nor did the texture. My stomach started to immediately turn. I didn't even eat half of it. They don't provide any form of sides or alcohol and only accept cash or check?? They live in the Stone Age! When my mom wanted the waiter to take my nieces and brothers food off of the bill (because they didn't eat it) he responded with "I don't know why. People come here from all over and don't say anything". Really?? Who freaking cares. If the food is gross, it's gross. My brother ended up throwing up not long after. The place is slow and the waiter sucked. I love Mexican food. It's my favorite and out of all the places I have ever been to, this place was by far the absolute worst. Again, I have NO idea how they have four stars. STAY AWAY. I'm positive they don't serve real chicken. The only nice experience I had here was when I was leaving. The young lady who works at the front held the door open for me and said she hopes I get better soon since I...
Read moreI want to start by saying the service here was wonderful. Our host and server was so attentive, friendly, and treated the kids in our party so sweetly. Our server was the only reason I am giving Monte Alban 2 stars. We sat in a large booth. 4 adults. 2 toddlers. The amount of sticky residue on the booth and food stuck between the cushions was wild. If that booth had ever been cleaned my guess was that it was about 6 years ago. I was disappointed there were no margaritas, but that could just be a personal preference. I had a chicken burrito, my husband had the carne asada, our friends had the taco salad and enchiladas. I don't know what the brown sauce is that they put on my burrito and my buddies enchiladas but it was pretty strange tasting. Not in a good way. My friends taco salad had 1 tomato, hot squash, and unidentified white stuff that, best we could guess, were mashed potatoes in it. The carne asada tasted like cardboard according to my husband (and he usually can put down anything) The chips were cold and saltless. The salsa was bland... The food and cleanliness were just....... Not okay honestly. Hopefully our experience was just a bad night, but I won't be going back...
