I read a local Facebook review and decided to check them out. The menu on their website caught my eye because of the Green Chile breakfast burrito they had pictured. My family and I went there at about 9:45 am and had a 16-20 minute wait with 5 other parties ahead of us. We made it to our table and we were greeted by Aleyah whom would be our waitress. My wife had the Mocha coffee (she said it was delicious) and also ordered the Southwest breakfast bowl. My daughter had the Southern Fried Arnold. My son and I both had the Breakfast Burrito.
Here are our thoughts on the food: For my wifes dish, the Southwest Breakfat bowl, it did NOT look as full as the bowl photo on their website. My wife said there was barely ANY quinoa in it, just a lot of brown rice and again, half filled.
My daughter enjoyed the (Southern Fried Arnold) chicken and biscuit, she ate one and took the other one home with her.
My son and I both had the Breakfast Burrito. It was large but not very flavorful as for spice you would expect from green chile. There were very few pieces of green chile in it and I think it may have been an anaheim or jalapeno. We told our waitress and she brought some tomatillo sauce, but it was not enough. We ended up adding the Cholula hot sauce to the burrito also and it finally had a little kick to it. I ordered the Hasbrown casserole for a side and it was a "small piece" on my plate, about 2 inches by 3 inches long....
I critiqued the food for our waitress, she told us for my wifes that we could order extras to be added to her breakfast bowl, but missed the piont that it was not filled and it did not have much quinoa in it,,, As for our burritos, I told her the spice element was missing, it was good but not a great burrito with green chile. Perhaps they could offer a salsa (like for chips) on the side for those that want it a little more spicy?
For the ambience, it was our first time going. The place was really busy but it was clean and well lit. We had a nice time and plan to go back again and try some other menu items. Thank you...
Read moreI discovered the Toasted Yolk about a few months ago. I was initially, pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. This prompted several more visits. My orders are usually to go, due to my work hours. When coming in to pick up your order, noone acknowledges you. They people working behind the bar act as though you are not standing there.
After about 15- 20 minutes, i was finally able to get someone's attention. If this had been a one-time occurrence, I wouldn't have said anything, but it has happened every single time I have visited the establishment.
The 1st time I waited an additional 45 minutes for my food only to get to the car and have part of my order missing.
The 2nd time, I entered, finally got someone's attention after about 10 minutes, waited another 20 for my order. Again, I get home and part of my order was missing.
Today, I went, no one acknowledged me standing there. I stood for about 10 minutes before a young man brought me my food. I checked my order, because I am accustomed to items being left out. When I made it home, I realized that what I thought were pancakes was actually ham (I don't eat meat) and the pancakes that I ordered were not there. I made several attempts to call, but noone answered.
I live in Lakeland, which is almost a 20-30 minute drive from the Toated Yolk. At this point, I'm more disappointed than anything because I have to drive all the way back to Germantown to get my order, in addition to waiting however long it is going to take for the preparation. I can say that this will be my last visit. I will, however, suggest that someone is appointed to get and manage the to-go orders a little better. The wait times, and this applies to my 1 dine-in experience as well, are ridiculously long. To stand for as long as most of the customers do without so much as a "Hello, someone will be with you soon", is absolutely...
Read moreI will start out saying the place is bright and cheery looking. This was our second visit to give a second chance. We came away disappointed. We can overlook our server not knowing what a cafe au lait is and the fact it Is on the menu but when it comes to the eggs not cooked properly and the server states, that's how we cook it here, that is where we draw the line. Yes, they were sunny side up, but the yolk should only be runny and not the egg white 🤢 (pic is hard to tell, but you will see a speck of cooked white in the middle of the clear uncooked white). My son ended up throwing up in the bathroom at the restaurant.
The fried banana peppers were good and their hashbrown casserole is good too. But everything else was not on point. The others who had eggs had lukewarm eggs. The pork sausage patties had an odd taste to them as well. The bacon is cooked in batches, so it is not fresh.
The 3 specialty coffees sat at the bar top until we pointed them out asking if those were ours and our server said maybe one of them but she was waiting on the other...turned out the 3 coffees were ours.
There was one other thing that did not affect us directly but set the mood which was when one plate that turned out to be another table's order, my son was told, yes, don't touch that, and the server took it to the other table...instead of taking it back to the kitchen for a remake. So food that was in front of my son for a good 2 minutes went to someone else. Yikes.
The manager did "make it right" to a degree on giving a discount on the ticket. Sorry toasted yolk, we will not see if third...
