Ugh what a disappointment. After having eaten at the original Hunan Garden for many, many years (and having been to multiple Asian countries), I was sad to see it went out of business and was replaced by this Asian restaurant. I had heard it was the same menu, but found out that it is not the same quality.
The Walnut Prawns at Hunan were iconic. The best Walnut Prawns I've ever had. They were practically a dessert. This place has absolutely butchered the recipe. The prawns are borderline flavorless and there's no peaches. The syrup is strictly coating the prawns and barely existent as a dip for the walnuts, so the walnuts are super dry. They don't break them up either, so you get gigantic pieces of walnut in each bite and there aren't even enough to have ONE per prawn. Don't even bother trying to have one per bite, which the name of the dish would imply. They might as well be garnish.
The beef and snow peas was bland as well. It's like they took all the interesting flavors out of all the Hunan recipes. The food looks like it should be rich and hearty, but you eat it and taste very little. I cannot stress how bland this food is.
Same goes for the egg rolls and chicken fried rice. Absolutely NO flavor. There's no point in repeating myself beyond that.
The fortune cookies were completely stale.
The crab rangoon was the only thing resembling something I'd call "tasty", but most of the work is done by the sweet and sour sauce, which they supplied us 2 giant cartons of. It's as if they're sending the message that we need to drench ALL the dishes in this stuff to get any kind of flavor out of it.
I won't go back here. You'll find better flavor in a Panda Express and I won't touch that place with a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food was not bad but it was not great. Also definitely not authentic Chinese food. I love general tso's chicken but what we got tasted nothing like I have ever had. There was no flavor what so ever and not even the slightest bit spicy. We also got chicken pad thai which was pretty strange tasting. Might have been a bad idea ordering thai from a Chinese place but it normal is something I love. This stuff the chicken was kinda mushy and left a wet dog taste in your mouth. The flavors were way off. I did like the crab ragoons but was a bit thrown off by the onions inside. Not sure if other items on the menu are good but it was definitely not the best with the food we got. They also charge a 3% fee for using a card which I thought was tacky. Probably won't return. The service was okay but the guy never asked how we were doing while we...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePut in the order at 5:18. They said it would be two hours. I confirmed on the phone 2 hours. Two hours later, they had not started the order. Every customer inside the place was having a similar experience. They are always busy on Christmas Eve, so this is a night they know they will need to staff up and prepare for a lot of business. In the past, under old management, they were able to serve customers on Christmas Eve. This time they were not. They refunded the whole order, which I appreciated, but there was very little time left to find another restaurant open in Gig Harbor. If you canāt finish an order in two hours, just donāt...
