I see a bunch of wedding cake reviews, but no cupcake order reviews. Here is my honest unsatisfied review of 18 cupcakes I orderd for my daughter's sweet 16 birthday in the flavor of Cinnamon roll with cream cheese icing. The 18 cupcakes DID NOT taste like they did when we sampled them. I paid $87.83 for cupcakes that were regular small sized cupcakes. I really paid more for the cupcakes because of the decorations I ordered from Amazon to place on the cupcakes, so these were $120 cupcakes. Honestly the flavor was all my daughter and I cared about and so I thought that was what I was paying for. When I picked up the cupcakes we went to the restaurant and when the time came to try to enjoy them, we couldn't. They looked cute, but the cupcakes DID NOT taste the same as when we sampled them. The icing tasted too sweet, my husband, daughter, and I all felt like the icing was too sweet. Too sweet like extra sugar had been put in them. I remembered the first lady who seemed new trying to take my order and tell me that they could do buttercream icing and put cream cheese in the middle "because the cream cheese icing wouldn't hold up" is what she said. My daughter and I didn't want that, so we asked for someone else who turned out to be the owner, to take our order. The owner took my order and assured me the icing would be cream cheese. I let her know we really really liked the Cinnamon roll cupcake because the icing and cake just melted in our mouths. So at the party, when we bit into the cupcakes, in my mind I was like, did they mix the buttercream and cream cheese icings or did they put extra sugar in it, so it "would hold up". We had her party on a Sat, and they weren't open until Tuesday. So I waited until Tuesday to call and was able to talk to the owner. I honestly was not looking for a refund, what I did want was answers and possibly a free cupcake or two since our order was not like we had tasted. What I got instead was an apology, and I got told "we are human" multiple times which I know. I was not rude or mean at all because there was no need to be, but then I got told that the bag of sugar possibly had extra sugar granules, but that they are supposed to throw those bags out. I honestly don't believe they are throwing away whole bags of sugar because they have some chunks. I asked maybe if it were possible that they put less cream cheese in it, first she said if they didn't cut the block right, then she said no because they use 2 whole blocks. It was honestly just a bunch of back and forth, NOTHING to offer as a "I'm sorry you were not satisfied with the taste of your almost $90 cupcake order". I told myself based on how our conversation went would determine if I went back to A Piece of Cake. Sadly, I won't be back. My daughter didn't even want more than one cupcake because they were too sweet and they were for her. Maybe if I had ordered an expensive wedding cake, my order would've been better or my concerns would've been addressed differently. The owner admitted she didn't make my icing, so she really doesn't know for sure "if the sugar and cream cheese were the right proportions". If you can't guarantee me quality, when I order a big quantity, then that's a problem. If you know your bags of sugar have chunks in them and you still keep using from that producer, then how can you be shocked when someone tells you the icing tastes sweeter? "ESPECIALLY" if you know for a fact your employees followed the same recipe. I feel like someone either gave us the wrong icing, maybe buttercream or messed up the cream cheese icing recipe. I really wished our experience had been better. I thought we had found a new cupcake spot since moving to AZ, but I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had 3 different flavors of cupcakes at our wedding along with a top tier. We booked Piece of Cake as part of our package with our venue, Villa Siena.
The tasting process was fun and easy. We were able to select our cake design from the ones they had featured online (pro tip: save time and narrow down your cake design before your appointment). We selected cinnamon roll with buttercream frosting, red velvet with cream cheese frosting, and vanilla with lemon filling and lemon dollops as our 3 flavors (with cinnamon roll being the top tier cake). All three were fantastic, but our favorite was the seasonal cinnamon roll. If you want to sample any in the display at the front, feel free to ask...as none of our three were in the standard tasting cake samples they gave us.
We delivered the cake topper and the cupcake liners that were ordered on Amazon ahead of time before the big day. Our venue had the cake and cupcakes displayed during the entire reception...we definitely had a few very eager mcbeavers taste the cupcakes even before the cutting! They provided a ribbon that wrapped around the top tier to match our cobalt blue wedding color!
As a fun extra, we also displayed a photo of our dog and a plastic dog figurine and dipped his nose in the cupcake frosting (so it looks like he took a bite out of one).
The cupcake display (with the top-tier cake) that was provided by Piece of Cake was a little bit wonky and a tad flimsy to lift. However, we were able to lift it to move it closer to the edge of the table for pictures...we just had to do it with a steady hand.
There were not many leftover desserts at the end of the night! Nice job,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wedding was three days ago but I have to start at the beginning. We had our tasting meeting in December with Rikki, who went above and beyond to find cake ideas for us that were both beautiful and cost-efficient (keeping our budget in mind even more so than we were) and took all my Pinterest inspiration into account before showing me THE CAKE. The wedding industry is filled to the brim with people who want to squeeze every penny out of you, and this was the first appointment my fiance and I had where we did not feel that way in the slightest. We left with cupcakes, full hearts, and felt truly so taken care of.
AND THEN THE WEDDING š I cried when I saw it on the cake table. It was gorgeous. It was exactly as Rikki and I had agreed and somehow even more beautiful than Iād imagined. Cakes this beautiful do not taste good, ever. Yet here I am, three days after my wedding, eating my leftover wedding cake (the actual best cake Iāve ever eaten) for breakfast and remembering āgotta go leave them a reviewā because we are blown away. By flavor, artistic talent, and by the service and love we received through the whole process. THANK YOU!
Love,...
