I’ve been a loyal customer of Costa Alegre for years and it’s always been my favorite spot in San José. Sadly, my recent visit to the new Gilroy location was a complete disaster.
Here’s what went wrong: • Our server only spoke to us in English, ignoring Spanish even when we spoke it. • I ordered a super michelada but got a regular one. The bill charged me for a “super michelada” I never received. • We ordered chips with salsa, but they brought chips with bland guacamole. • The kids’ plate was wrong • I was handed tacos that weren’t even mine I took a bite before realizing they belonged to someone else. Embarrassing. • Food took forever: 45 minutes for some dishes, another 15 minutes for the rest. • The caldo came with no tortillas or lime • The manager was dismissive and only offered free alcohol as compensation (most of us weren’t drinking 1/4 adults ordered a drink. • The bill was still incorrect, and they never even brought me water.
To make things worse, the email listed on their website is undeliverable, and I tried multiple times to reach them before leaving this review. I also messaged them on Instagram with no response.
The table seated after us got their food and finished before we were even served. With a child at the table, this was unacceptable. This location feels like it opened before it was ready. Extremely poor service, multiple mistakes, long wait times, and zero accountability. Save yourself the frustration stick to the San José locations, but do not...
Read moreMy family & I went to try out this new spot & we were all disappointed. I ordered birria soup & added “ramen” to it since on the menu it says you can add ramen & I made sure with our server if they can do that & he assured me yes I can. We all ordered our food & waited a whole hour & a half for our food. My families food came out first & it was lukewarm. I was still waiting for mine for another 30 mins or so. My food finally comes out, but doesn’t have the ramen I added in it, so I asked the girl who was serving us what happened to the ramen & she stated they don’t have any but she was going to ask her manager & our server to double check. Long story short, our server comes back & apologizes for the misleading information he gave me & if I wanted to order something else & I kindly declined because my family was already eating & I didn’t want to wait another hour for ordering something new, so I just continued to sit there so my family can finish up eating. Meanwhile, waiting for the food to come out the servers were all confused on which tables the food goes to & kept asking table to table if they ordered this & that. It was really unorganized & staff didn’t know what they were doing, along with the kitchen really behind on peoples food. We will not...
Read moreWe went to eat here and were seated right away. However, it took a while to order our drinks. It took over 45 minutes for us to get our food. The speed of serving food was slow. Our server and other staff members would come and check on us to ask if we needed anything; we kept saying we were waiting for our food. Unfortunately, the service was very slow. Our server even told us that she thought we had eaten because she didn't see our food order anymore. I wonder if they forgot to put it in. As far as the food goes, we ordered a "mariscada caliente," and it did not include the crab legs that were shown on the menu. I didn't want to ask because I didn't want to wait another 45 minutes. The flavor wasn't there, and the fish was not tender. It was mostly veggies. In my point of view, $50 was not worth it. The reason I'm giving them a four-star rating is that the "parrillada plate" was excellent and worth buying. I will give them another try. I know opening a restaurant takes time to settle in, and hopefully, it will go better next time. I will just never buy the...
