California Fish Grill — Restaurant in Glendale

I’ve been to California Fish Grill plenty of times, and usually, the food is solid. But the experience at the Glendale location? Completely disappointing.

First off, the quality of service here seems to depend entirely on the mood of the staff that day. I came in during my lunch break expecting quick service—like I’ve had consistently at the Burbank location—but this visit was anything but fast or pleasant. After placing my order, I watched multiple other customers (some who ordered after me) receive their food before I did. When I politely asked about the delay, an older white male employee responded by raising his voice and telling me to “wait patiently” at my table. Not exactly professional or helpful.

Another 10 minutes passed. DoorDash, Grubhub, takeout, and dine-in customers were all getting served—except us. In total, we waited 35 minutes for our food. I understand that places get busy, but that kind of wait during lunch isn’t acceptable, especially when other orders are clearly being prioritized.

Once our food finally arrived, it was brought out on a tray. That same employee returned and, without saying a word, reached over with unwashed hands to grab the tray—taking my napkin and utensils with it. He then casually dropped the napkin back on the table... while I was eating. Not only was it unhygienic, it was completely disrespectful. When I asked him not to touch my things, he leaned in close to our faces and claimed this was just "part of the procedure."

Let’s be real—this isn’t about one mistake. The entire vibe at this location is unfriendly, careless, and unprofessional. It feels like any basic request is met with resistance or attitude. It’s frustrating to see service this poor when employees are now making $20 an hour; you'd expect at least the bare minimum in hospitality and cleanliness.

Bottom line: California Fish Grill is great—but skip the Glendale location. The Burbank spot is way...

My wife and I have been regulars at the California Fish Grill since it opened, as the food and service can’t be beat! While I usually opt for the salmon salad and coconut shrimp, my wife swears by their salmon tacos. In any event, along with incredibly tasty food, the restaurant is immaculate and the restrooms are well-cleaned. In addition, CFG’s friendly and attentive staff play a strong role in adding to the warm and welcoming ambiance of the restaurant. For that matter, Ronny, the manager, goes out of his way to greet customers (*often by name) and check-up on them during their meal. In this regard, Ronny can always be counted on to go the extra mile…which includes everything from wiping the tables, explaining different menu options, and making sure that meals are cooked to perfection for each customer. I had such a wonderful experience at this Fish Grill thanks to Melissa and Kiara!

As soon as I walked in, Melissa greeted me with such kindness and enthusiasm. She had a big smile on her face and helped me place my order at the kiosk, which made the whole process so easy. While I was eating, both Melissa and Kiara came by multiple times to check in and make sure everything was perfect. Their friendliness and genuine care really stood out — you honestly don’t see service like this anymore, not even at many high-end restaurants.

I didn’t get a chance to tip them, but I wanted to leave this review to highlight how amazing they both were. I truly hope the manager sees this, because Melissa and Kiara went above and beyond to make my visit special.
