2023: Initially, we wanted to check out the LoveyouLatte for breakfast. We got so p*ed off by their attitude we left before even seated and went to Foxy's - once again. As always, it was excellent - one of the best old-school Sixties-era diners around.
The perfect place to go if you want a cozy place to make your own toast and enjoy ample coffee refills - the perfect breakfast/brunch spot!
And it's the perfect place to go if you want great service and a super vibe.
5/5: Atmosphere. From the A-frame architecture to the subdued lighting, to the opera playing in the background and the toasters on the tables, this place is retro without being cliched.
5/5: Service. Friendly, welcoming, polite.
5/5: Parking lot is ample.
5/5: Food. Your basic diner food, although they also have a bar with wine and cocktails. My wife and I both had the eggs breakfast - and it was perfect. The hash brows were better than my mum's, and that says a lot.
5/5: Wait time. We did not have any, but let's face it: Foxy's is very popular especially at breakfast and on weekends. You may have to wait a while but it's worth it.
Thanks for reading my comment. Now, if you are curious enough about my "rating scheme", here's "the moment of truth:
I am a music photographer who has traveled the world with the world's greatest musical talents (Michael Jackson, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, and Rammstein, to name a few) for almost 40 years. When being asked "Where do you live" I tended to ask "in hotels". At my peak, I "shot" 250 shows a year.
Will say: been there, saw and tasted it, and a lot, as I may say, and much to the dismay of my doctor who is in my back to lose a few pounds. Quite a few, as I may add, which is why my wife and I walk ten thousand steps per day, where- and whenever we can - and explore a lot of new exciting places - places you may oversee when just driving by. While I love to share my experience with others, I am sometimes shocked at how people use their "power of the word" to down-rate amazing places because of minor incidents (in my all-time favorite restaurant Le Petit Four on Sunset Plaza the owner was even called a racist as he refused to toast the (free) bread in his packed restaurant - they simply do not offer toasted bread, as no French place does, as I may add).
Or I just read "Chicken piccata so over-salted I hope the dog enjoys the leftovers tomorrow, I brought home most of the dish." Did they speak to their service? How could the restaurant learn that something was wrong when patrons even have their leftovers boxed to take home? Then, as a dog owner, I want to take the writer and shake him or her really bad and say "You give over-salted food to your dog?
Anyone with a bit of brain understands this is a horrible idea... I hope you agree. So If I had a say on this portal, I would offer just to see the ratings of my friends. So I would see what the ratings were by like-minded people. Sadly, I have no say. I try not to compare apples with oranges. A place like this does not correspond to "The Ritz". At first, I assume that a restaurant is clean, they do not greet you with a gun - and they deliver whatever they promise. I do not give stars for things that are expected. In my rating scheme, three or more stars are awarded if they actually exceed my expectations. Four, if I am sure I will come back. To achieve five stars, I must be willing to take a detour of thirty minutes or more to go again - AND I CERTAINLY WILL GO BACK TO FOXY'S :-).
Thank you again for...
Read moreUPDATED: This update has to do with rating the cashier named "Romeo". Poor attitude and should be more respectful to his elderly customers. He's gets 1 Star.
Restaurant: Still receives 4 Stars Good food, fair prices and great service. Minus one star for parking issues. Get there early on the weekends for on site parking. Otherwise, you must park elsewhere.
Background summary: There is an old saying "The customer is always right". At least in this particular situation. So, I decided to treat myself to breakfast this morning; which is something I rarely do these days. I was seated in the patio area, and given a menu. I choose the Sea Food Omelette; the price listed on the menu given to me, $15.00. When I received the bill; the price I was being charged $17.00. Not really a huge increase. I asked the waitress to bring me the menu. This menu showed the $17.00 price. So, they have two differently price menus floating. Was the lower priced menu like a lucky random act of kindness?
While taking my bill to the cashier named Romeo, I decided to let him know about the different prices on the two menu's. He started off by pointing to a small ceramic square with a picture of a Barcode and Foxy's website address, saying to me the new prices are posted there, in a argumentative tone and a what are you stupid; facial expression.
As young elderly senior, I'm use to viewing my food options on a traditional menu. And, I was simply pointing out to Romeo the menu's he is giving to customers have different prices for the same food items.
Well, then he started his long discombobulating rant. Which ended by him saying; he will just get rid of the "hand out menu's and make everybody use their cellphones to scan the barcode". I replied, well, you might lose your older customers. His reply was, shrugging his shoulders and shaking his head, which to me meant, he didn't care.
My hope is that the owners see this review and then provide Romeo additional customer service training with emphasis on talking to the elderly customers...
Read moreOk, so i met a friend here yesterday and we sat for a half hr on the patio. I did not want anything to eat I wanted dessert but did not see anything i wanted. My friend got a bottled water. Mind you he is new to the country and was getting himself aquainted to the town. We paid the bill and left Today we decided to go back and get coffee and dessert with two othee people. Mind you the restaurant was EMPTY! I walked to the back and sat down. Thw waitesss approached us rudly and asked if we were ordering food amd i said no. She did not give me a chance to wven ask about dessert. She then rudly said... you were here yesterday and did not order and you are here again today. This is a restaurant not starbucks! You need to order food!. I then asked for coffee and my friend asked for tea. Her tea came my coffee didnt so I did not say anything. I am so upset really ipset. I've been coming to this place for many many many years and have spent at least $80 each time and left hefty tips. There There was no sign that said you can't just have coffee. There was no sign that said you had a table minimum. There was no sign that said anything of that nature, if that was the case, I would have just given her some cash to shut her up. I don't believe the way we were treated period she never came back to ask about the coffee she never came back to give her refill of hot water and this rudely just dismissed us. If the restaurant was full, I would have completely understood, but the place was empty completely completely completely empty.Completely empty there was hardly anybody in there. It wasn't like there was a line of people wanting to go and sit. She just wanted to be rude. I hadn't been there in a couple of years, because the last time I was there was with a friend that we used to go every night and my friend passed away and I could not bring myself to go. So I pushed myself yesterday to go and then this is how I got treated. I will not go back to this restaurant.. Done...
