No photos from me. Plenty already from its age and unchanged look. The place look exactly the same other then the 15 or so years of wear and tear since I first visited back in the days of Todai, This was a good competitor and certainly it is still here! I went for lunch on a Wed. I probably missed the banner that said "come one come all AARP club house luncheon". It might have hit me on the head if i were to look up instead of down dazzled by the worn out glittery walk path that lead me half away around from the parking lot to the front entrance that is looking straight at the underside of the freeway interchange. Not to mention you literally have to follow the arrow signs to get around the build to the entrance. There were many doors along the way but you must enter at the front to pay first. $22+ $2 tax + tips. Your call. The parking entrance has a designated area for drop offs but then people just park on the green curb. We need stronger action to address blue green color blindness for drivers -or- was it first come first serve and I was the blind one?
Table- pro and cons. Sit close, you may get the lower section where access is tricky. The ADA slope is not so safe I witness a lady with 3 legs almost tripped. More legs are not better as it proved. The rectangular floor tile dictated some odd slope and layout without no visible warning. A "wet floor" cone did no good because it's not WET. It's a bulging turtle shell on the floor with same color and texture of the flat floor. It's hard for anyone not looking down at the floor on first approach. I learnt to take the stairs.
Food: Sushi section good. Mentioned earlier, it was a Todai competitor and it kept up the good work on this front. No sashimi at lunch. I only had stuff with raw fishes, they were reasonably fresh. No complain from me. The vital wasabi companion was spicy enough and not overwhelming or wimpy. Regular orange masago (the tiny ones) and oddly a black caviar (my best guess of what it is) were available in a big tub where you deal with them your own way. Unfortunately these tubs of eggs were relatively blend. I rub them on the meaty CA cut roll pieces.
Warm asian food: hit and miss. The flavor, not meant to offend, leans toward Philippine. Nothing wrong with that but it's just not my thing. Plenty of fishes: steamed, fried, first fried (deep fried) then steam not sure why, Maybe there was a mix up somewhere. Small white filets, large salmon chunks. 2-3 pounder steamed whole then cut into large chunks. Looked good. Bubba Gump for fish? Didn't touch any of it. I refer myself to the sushi section. Orange chicken, broccoli beef, sautéed mushrooms, nothing to write about. Forget about the dimsum. Maybe turn over too low. The suimai were steamed to death. I got 1 and it was dead and the taste reflected this fact. Plenty of buns (white and purple) but I didn't come here to eat buns. Chicken feet and spare ribs sat around also. The feet looked good while I looked at adjacent table chewing them up.
Small clams- umm.. Crunchy! (sand) Lots of minerals. (sand). Don't let that get cold on your table. I thought I was smart to put them in a soup bowl with efficient quantity to worth the walk, but more assumed good turned out to be more bad at the same time. While working on other food, it went a ted cool. Immediately an unmistakable aura reached out to me. It reminded me of the ocean- when sitting in an old harbor ferry 3rd class waiting for it to sail. The open frame deck, next to the water with occasional splashes from the pier and the aroma of stale sea water under the pier... It was cooked in mostly water without much ingredients to address this issue and it showed. It was not salty so at least it wasn't just cook in sea water.
need to cut out half the writing. too long. SOUP-mostly failed. Dessert-if u like ice cream, jack pot! Service: good. Exiting the parking lot- dangerous. 5G signal: yes...
Read moreGreetings all,
After a busy week, I found myself with a rare Sunday off and made a decision to convert this day into a quality family time, stepping out for a brunch. Out of all the possible options, we landed upon a buffet. Lured by a promising location and a wide sit-down menu that covered various tickling tastes, we were thrilled for a satisfying brunch experience.
Upon arriving at the spot, our initial impression was certainly uplifted by the persuasion of its geographical placement. A perfect spot for a relaxed family brunch, one would think. However, once we stepped on the premises, the first impression quickly started fading. Let's just say, the decor left a lot to be desired. A welcoming atmosphere, I believe, can set the tone for a delightful meal but, unfortunately, it was not the case here.
Moving on from the rather underwhelming decor, we hoped that the available food would help to redeem the overall experience but, to our disappointment, we were not content with what was offered. The food, in simpler words, did not meet our expectations.
Another essential aspect that contributes hugely towards the overall experience is the quality of services provided, mainly reflected upon by the staff's behavior. You would expect friendly faces ready to accommodate you, adding to the brunch's charm, but unfortunately, this was not the case here too. The staff, we interacted with, lacked the friendliness and warmth that we expected, which further fueled our dissatisfaction.
Lastly and notably, the men's bathroom was not maintained well, providing an unpleasant scene. Cleanliness, especially in these pandemic times, is not just a courtesy, but an essential pre-requisite that cannot, and should not, be compromised.
Although this experience was not the best one, I would like to turn your attention to the Vegas Seafood Buffet in Glendale. They have impressed me greatly with their exceptional service in the past. If you are looking for a place that ticks all the necessary boxes for a decent eatery, I would definitely suggest considering it for your next outing.
Please remember that the experience I shared is based on my personal observation and interpretation. Everyone's preferences vary and it's completely normal. The intention behind sharing this experience was to provide an honest opinion which could be taken into consideration when planning your next...
Read moreEDIT: New new owners (i think) have taken over. While there are some good changes like no food poisoning, i also did not eat any of the sushi, why? It was set ON TOP of the buffet area, ya know the area where there's no ice. And i watched since i was sat right in front. When we got there there where 3 FULL sushi platter on top, okay thats fine cook has to readjust and clean up a bit before rotating the sushi. Nope, waited till the plates in the ice where gone then put warm sushi. I ended up leaving before the plate of salmon sashimi made it out. Keep in mind that was one of the initial 3. While the price did decrease i find it reasonable since the hot foods like mussels, shrimp and crab where good. However the mongolian grill did see a decrease in quality since steak and beef is reserved for dinner, but takes nothing away from the stars since it is cheaper now.
For the most part i wanted to delete the previous review but I'm still seeing HUGE food safety rules being broken and therefore I'm not entirely sure what happens back there, so below you will find a couple year old review, one other change is that they changed the soft serv icecream to the bucket ones
SO MANY EXPIRED PRODUCTS. Got creamer for my coffee and it was all chunky, SOUR ice cream, no it wasn't supposed to be sour, it was supposed to be vanilla and chocolate, the sushi, osyter and crab were probably sitting out for far too long and my family and I shouldnt have eaten it. This is the kind of quality I'm paying for for $25 per person? If I wanted to stay up on the toilet I would've just eaten from a dumpster and saved the money. Don't cut corners, you're putting your customer's health at risk. Please, you guys used to be amazing, I've see this resturant turn from osaka to fuji and i remeber the increase spike of quality, hell the steak at the mongolian bbq was QUALITY. You're like the last all you can eat asian buffet within reasonable distance from my place (its about a 45 min drive). Please take better care of the food...
