Me and my cousin were on our way home from Los Angeles after a very long day at work and I still had about an hour and a half left to go, so I decided to look up a spot to eat. I was craving mediterranean food and after a quick google search, I found this particular spot and I figured I'd give it a try. Parking isn't the easiest as its very limited, however I was able to find a spot close by and I walked in. Upon walking in, I was greeted by Tigran and a friendly and welcoming personality. I stood in life while I looked at the menu and he had asked if we were ready, however I needed a bit more time to see what I was going to order.
Once I was ready, I walked up to the counter and Tigran proceeded to take our order. My cousin ordered the Chicken Tarna Plate with the basmati rice and garden salad, while I opted for the Chicken Kabob Plate with basmati rice and their tabbouleh salad and an extra chicken skewer. We also ordered two drinks, my cousin had the hibiscus tea and I had the cucumber mint lemonade. The hibiscus tea was not sweetened as most places, which is actually a good thing and pairs up great with this good. My cucumber mint lemonade was the BEST lemonade I've ever had, it was extremely delicious. I must admit I did have to add extra ice and dilute it slightly by adding some water because it was the taste was strong, but in a good way.
After serving our drinks, we walked over to take a seat by the windows facing south, the overall seating area was really nice and open, with plenty of space around each seat. I wanted to watch the Dodger game and so I chose this seat where I can have my iPad streaming the game while I enjoyed my food. While I waited for my food, I realized this place is fairly busy, lots of traffic, however it is not overcrowded by any means. I believe majority of orders were to go, however seeing a lot of people made me think this food was going to be really good.
After waiting a little bit of time, my order was ready and I called up. I grabbed my tray and walked back to my table. I realized they had these little clear containers with something white inside, looked like some semi-clear white paste but I wasn't sure what it was. Curious to know, I walked to the front and asked Tigran what it was and with a smile he said "That's garlic sauce", I told him I wasn't sure but not once did he make me feel odd or weird about asking what it was. He continued to have a friendly personality.
I finally decided to try out the food and oh man, the food was DELICIOUS, I have only had mediterranean from a few places, 5 to be exact, and this one was definitely on top of the list. Each one of our plates had 2 pita breads, which I really appreciated since all the other spots only come with 1 bread and I have to purchase additional ones. I realized maybe I shouldn't eat more than 1 but it was really good, you know I ate both of them haha
I could not finish my meal, perhaps because I had 3 cups of the lemonade, or the two pita breads, so I decided t take it to-go. I walked to the counter and asked Tigran if i could have a to-go box for my food and he gave me a very sturdy box, which worked perfect compared to some other flimsy containers other restaurants hand out. I also ordered an extra side of hummus, trust me its REALLY good! Tigran asked me what my name was (for the new order) and I said 'Francisco', he said "Ok I'll try to remember that, I sometimes forget but I will try to remember your name next time you come in" with a smile again. I said I wasn't from this area and I lived out of town, I was just passing by.
Overall, I give this place 5 start but I would give it 10 if it was possible. To the staff at Zankou Chicken, thank you for keeping a clean place, to the kitchen, great job, everything was delicious, and last but not least, to Tigran, thank you for everything. If you read this, thank you for the welcoming and friendly customer service, keep it up. I will DEFINITELY stop by for lunch or dinner again when I drive to Los...
Read moreThere's 12 people working in the kitchen, and it still took an hour and 10 mins for us to get a plate and a Schwarma. It was pretty busy and the cashier did tell us it was going to be about 25 mins because they were busy, so we decided to wait and watch an episode of GBBO, we'll the episode passed and we were still waiting for our food and noticed that the people in line after us were starting to get there's, when I asked if our name or number had been called out, they told ot was next and that it would be another 5 mins, I waited another 10 mins, when to go ask, and they looked confused, the manager told me the machine got stuck and it didn't print any tickets after ours, so our order had gotten lost, but she went to run to where the tickets were , grabbed a combo plate and a bag and called out my name like she didn't just see my number or name and said," see it was the next one up" I just hope that whoever is training them helps the 12 people back there be able to assemble food more efficiently. This is Glendale, if you are gonna wait an hour for Mediterranean, go to an authentic...
Read moreZanku, a hidden gem that serves mouth-watering Lebanese and Armenian cuisine. From the get-go, I was captivated by the classic garlic sauce that comes with many of their dishes – it's absolutely addictive! The long wait times at here are just part of the experience, especially when ordering their popular kabobs or Lule. It’s a testament to the quality of the food that so many people are willing to wait, and trust me, it’s worth it! While waiting for my meal, I glanced at the menu and realized I had forgotten to order the pickled red beets, which usually come with the meal—unless they’re only served with the chicken? As usual, I wished they offered more rice; it's simply never enough! This particular location has a simplicity to its décor. Unlike its sleeker sister location in Burbank, the ambiance is decidedly no-frills. But as the saying goes, don't judge a book by its cover – the real magic happens...
