My recent visit to McDonald's was ridiculous. Seriously ridiculous. Let me start by saying that no one, myself included, expects great food or outstanding service at McD's. But this last visit was a whole new level of "hassle your customer enough that even in-app discounts and free food will not be enough to get them to return."
My journey began the usual way. I was hungry, McD's was close by, and I am not a fan of spending $14 on a quick lunch so I opened the McD's app and scrolled through the Deals. I found one for 40% off of an item that is fairly tasty so I pull into the drive-thru. While I am waiting I see that the app is promoting in-app payment by offering a bonus of 1500 rewards points if you store your payment card in the app. I am going to pay with my card anyway, so I add it as a payment method.
I arrive at the window and the 40% discount coupon scans as it should, and then I pull up the payment method and that is scanned as well. Now the trouble begins.
Using the in-app payment feature somehow voided the 40% discount. I am handed my receipt and I see that my card has been charged full price. I ask why and am told that I can't use 2 coupons at the same time. I am completely unaware that the bonus reward points count as a "coupon," and the employee doesn't seem to know this either. This concept is not explained on the in-app payment promotion page or anywhere else that I could find.
So I ask for a refund because the item I ordered is not worth the full price of $5.00 to me. I am told that I must drive around the building, park, and come into the store to get a refund. I'm like, WHAT?? I am on my lunch break, I am hungry, I am being hassled, and now I have to take an additional 10 mins to get a refund. I resign myself to this obviously dysfunctional series of events and proceed.
I wait in line inside the restaurant and am given a cash refund out of the register for the purchase made on my card. I wonder if there is a reason that I couldn't have received the refund from the drive-thru cash register, but I kept my thoughts to myself.
Next I order the item and the 40% off coupon is rejected because I have already used it. Ok. So no. No I did not use the coupon. I was charged full-price so the 40% off never happened, which is why I am in here ordering again. I am told that there is nothing that can be done. The coupon is not valid. I offer to do the calculation on my phone so I can be charged the discounted price. No. They can't do that. The shift manager is standing nearby, as she has been supervising the refund process while she continues working filling orders. She takes the time to ask me, "Is that the only item you ordered?" Yes. "Well that is how the app is and I can't do anything about it." Keeping in mind that the employee at the drive thru, the worker inside the store AND the manager have not acknowledged that this has been a hassle for me (you know, me, the customer) and have not uttered any kind of apology between the 3 of them.
I ponder my options and realize that for less than a dollar more I can drive down the block to Culver's and get a world-class double bacon cheeseburger, made fresh to order, cooked on an actual grill.
Off to Culver's I go and enjoy a fabulous burger magnitudes of quality above what I was going to settle for at McD's. Going forward I will forget about the discounts and go straight to Culver's and have a really good lunch with the bonus that I will return to my desk afterward without having been aggravated.
In the interest of fairness, nobody can touch the Egg McMuffin or the Sausage and Egg Mcmuffin for a fresh, tasty, quality breakfast sandwich. It is interesting to note that for an enormous restaurant chain that was built on the hamburger, they really don't compete in that product category anymore. But McD's does have breakfast...
Read moreI stopped in the store yesterday and have eaten at McDonald's for many many years and in recent times in the last year so about twice a day. I've stopped at McDonald's and Wisconsin Minnesota Illinois Kentucky Tennessee Florida South Carolina and many other states I have never gone to a McDonald's for breakfast and they don't even carry a chicken biscuit. Now I'm not talking about them running out of something and those things can happen and I'm understanding but to not even have it on their menu is absolutely ridiculous. I was so disappointed and ended up getting something else to eat besides that this restaurant should be shut down by the health department they had paper towels and toilet paper for out of the dispensers in the men's room and sitting on the counters getting splattered water and also a roll of paper toweling sitting on the floor in the men's bathroom. I looked in the corners of the stalls and in the bathroom and it was just filth built up in the corners. The lobby was dirty as well and I looked behind the front counter and the floor was filthy. This would be unacceptable even before covid but it makes me wonder if they take as much care into cleanliness in preparing food because the bathrooms would suggest otherwise and so what the lobby. I've only once in my life ever seen bathrooms in a fast food restaurant worse than that and I called the health department. The franchise owners of this store in the GM should be ashamed of their self for representing the McDonald's company in such fashion. I definitely won't go back to this store even if the bathrooms were clean because they don't have enough common sense to have a common breakfast item, chicken biscuit, on their menu. On a good note the workers seem very busy but at least smiled a bit and were somewhat friendly or I would have rated the...
Read moreon July 18th I went through the drive-thru and ordered a big breakfast meal I was given no condiments I was given no syrup I was given no salt or pepper or anything in my bag I had called and filed a complaint with Jimmy. Jimmy he was very nice and apologized because he said they were new trainers he then told me to go back and get my meal. The next day I arrived and was greeted by an angry manager who said it was not her fault because she was not there and to me that means that she i does not care. she also told me to leave before she called the cops she ended up calling the cops. I asked her instead of calling the cops and arguing with me if she could just give Jimmy a call she refused and still argue with me. She refused to give me corporates number or the owners number. The poor little girl that was over by the drive-through cashier I felt really bad for her because she was very out of place. I'm actually a really nice person. I have never filed a complaint I about an employee in my life. This is the first time and it's sad to see that it is one of your managers at your McDonald. P.s. I've been going to this place for 2 years and they always forget my stuff but I never complain because I understood how it feels to work at a fast food place. I go there so much that I know that they're trying to make positive changes at this McDonald's cuz i see it but she is a part of why this place is not going to change. I wish her the best of luck I'm not mad at anybody maybe she's just having a bad day but it could have been handled differently. I will not be going to this...
