We were sat down at a broken table then were relocated to another table. A table that was in dire need of a wipe down along with the seats.
They didn't tell the wait staff so apparently nobody thought to approach the two guests looking at menus. I was curious as to how long it would take for someone to approach us so I started my stopwatch after about 5 minutes. We saw them attending to people who arrived after us. Those guests received their drinks and had food orders taken while we waited, ignored.
It wasn't busy at all either. The bar tender could see us but she was busy flirting with a coworker. There was one couple outside before we arrived. Then another couple arrived outside. One guy wassitting at the bar and I could see one couple in the east dining room. The place was around 10% capacity and it was 430p.
I'm not sure what their system is here for greeting guests after they've been seated but there's a huge room for improvement. When the waitress finally approached us (10+ minutes) she asked if we sat ourselves? Ummm, how did we get menus?
So we finally order.
Kentucky fried chicken tenders were not good. The breading was, the chicken was not good at all, very greasy.
My state 48 burger was good. It was cooked properly and they were plenty of fries. I asked for no tomatoes but received them anyway and was charged for ranch which I never asked for. My daughter asked for ranch for the tenders and we received that one, but were charged for two. It's only .50 so I didn't bring it up, but not impressed. Charging for a dip I didn't order but hey, I got the tomatoes I also didn't want, no charge!
The beer I got was an Irish red which I really enjoyed. Too bad I only had one.
The service was slow. I waited and waited and waited to order a second drink but was never offered nor did she ask. Both our drinks along with our water lay empty since the food arrived. I'm not going to beg you to spend my money.
Being that it was slow, I can't imagine what it's like when it's busy.
There is one girl working at reception who looks like she has not one happy atom in her body. She's got a scowl and can't come up a smile. She should be in the kitchen, not at the reception creating negative first impressions. We were going to go here last Friday as well but it was a 2hr wait before hockey. She was there at that time too... looking unhappy.
Instead of a pleasant tone she pretty much just didn't want us to consider that place, or anyone that was walking in. "Its gonna be like 2 hours" which could've been, "unfortunately we're packed and have a two hour wait. Would you like me to put you on the list?".
I'm glad we didn't waste our time waiting and went to another place (Bar Louie) that seemed happy to have more guests.
Also, the prices on the menu aren't the same as on the bill. There is a definite lack of attention to detail and follow through here. Must be a mgt problem.
Looking at the reviews, looks like the same issues keep popping up. Bad service, long waits, dirty place, bad/ incorrect food. What's up state 48, why can't you figure this out?
This place looks great, but I'm not going to waste my time and money here again....
Read moreWhere do I even begin? We had reservations, went well for that. Service was in the slow lane, which Rosa was our server. Started out ok. Never smiled though, she was just 'there'. Had to get other servers to get her or take our orders since she was slow to come around. Place was not that busy mind you. Some people in our party ordered early, others ordered when ready. Some food came out fast. Others like fish or chicken tacos were either cold from sitting so long, or took so long she told us they had to be refried and would be out. Fish tacos took 45 min. Then the fish were these tiny pieces of fish in what would be considered street tacos, three of them. I had to laugh. No way should've taken THAT long. Couldn't finish them the tortillas hardened. This was all in a few minutes. The chicken tacos were sent back and a new plate was brought out. She did comp the chicken tacos, and without even asking, she comped both fish tacos plates cause they took sooooooo long. Was thankful for that. Now the even funner part begins.. one couple asked for the check, the one with the chicken tacos. All checks had auto 18% gratuity, but whatever. I don't tip well when the service isn't good. Rosa brings the check and had a defensive attitude towards the couple. Then she brings another plate out with a salad and forgets to leave the dressing. Fast forward she brings my check without asking saying she could remove the auto gratuity, still on the defense I could tell. I told her it was fine. I forgot to use a gift card that was given so went to see if the sale could be voided as I would NEVER be back there, nor any of the friends with me. The next thing I know Rosa is coming up to me with the sale ticket stating that she so offended and asking me what was wrong with the service and food. I started to communicate and was happy to oblige in stating what went wrong. At this point the manager, don't know her name but was all tattooed up, wouldn't even let me speak, saying "she's not going to have me talk to her staff that way, and I'm the one who needs to talk personal". Are you serious right now? You can't even be professional and you're cutting off a customer? So let's go back. Rosa, the waitress was asking me again for feedback, though with a totally defensive attitude, and the manager wouldn't even let me speak, at all, and was so rude. She claimed I was making a scene, but refused to hear any complaint. Then she started to walk away, yelling me I needed to leave, not even listening or addressing ANY of the issues we had, nor the wait, had not a clue nor the decency to listen to multiple customer complaints. Seriously? So wrong on so many levels. We weren't asking for a refund on the food. All I wanted was to use my gift card as I knew I'd never be back. We also had reservations to go bowling, but with the long wait on the food and people having to order different menu items and wait longer, we didn't even want to bowl. Then with whole fiasco. We will NEVER be back. They'll try to respond and justify their actions. My party, which was the first table, couldn't even hear the convo. That's how loud "I" supposedly was....
Read moreI've been to State 48 downtown and Scottsdale many times without issues. This one was terrible, and the manager was exceptionally bad.
I ordered food and a drink. I asked for a second drink and to close my tab. I got the tab (but not the drink) and noticed that the price was higher than what is posted on the menu. I pointed that out to the bartender and she agreed and said she'd get the manager to correct it.
The manager came over and asked for my name and shook my hand (awkward). He explained that unfortnately the price had changed and that's why I have to pay the higher price. I told him it's not my problem that the price has changed. I ordered the item at the price posted on their menu.
He said that because my beer was higher than 7.5%, it was served in a 13 ounce glass. I told him I understand and that I can read. That's not the same as the price ringing up different than what the menu said (the guy was an idiot; what does the glass size have to do with the posted price?). He then said something remarkably stupid. He said, "Well I can reprint the menu and then it can say whatever I want." Sure. You can reprint the menu and after that charge the price listed. However, I purchased at a different price.
The guy just wanted to argue and so I simplified it and said that I would in no way pay more than the price listed on the menu. Why is it so difficult to just charge the posted price (delta of $3.50) instead of making your customer out to be a bad guy?
He then said he'd do a favor for me and give me a discount. It is not a discount to charge what your menu says. The bartender then brought me over my tab (without the drink I'd ordered) and told me, "Everyone who comes here know the price was higher." Seriously? What is wrong with these people? So, I'm an idiot for not "knowing" something costs more than the posted price? They treated me like I was being an unreasonable jerk for wanting the item at the price they listed it at and that I bought it at. Since she was handing me tab without the drink, I figured they wanted me gone and so I tipped $0 and left.
On the way out, the manager mockingly said, "Have a nice day!" and waved.
The waitress and the manager were both weirdos who acted like I was being completely unreasonable for pointing at the price on the menu and the price on my bill and showing that they've overcharged me.
They even acknoweldged the lower price on the menu by agreeing it was written that way "but the price has changed."
I like being polite to servers and tipping well, and so I didn't appreciate being made out like I'm in the wrong.
Edit: Look at the response from the owner. What is wrong with these guys? They missed the point. One, it's not "discounting" to give the correct price and two, the point is the manager was a complete jerk that chose to fight instead of just charge the legal price. He just wanted to...
