Changing my 2 star review to a 1 star review.
Decided to give this place another try since it's one of the only alright places to eat at in Westgate. Kind of expected to have bad service since the last time we were here which a manager still never contacted me about but the resturant said they would. Walked in and were seated right away. Then we waited and looked over the menu for our server to come over. We decided on drinks and food we wanted to order. Then waited again, we kept looking around since there were 4 women standing at the hostess stand and they just continued to stand there. Finally our server came over, didn't apologize for the wait or anything. My husband asked if we could just order all of our food. It took over 10 minutes for our server to grab 2 sodas and didn't even have my glass of wine which he said he would be right back with but wasent. Finally 20 minutes into us sitting here we all had drinks. We also ordered
Came here tonight with my family. We love coming here before hockey games because normally everything is amazing. We walked in and noticed there was a wait list which we expected. Your hostess talked to us very rudely but we just kind if brushed it off, maybe she was just having a bad night. We stepped outside because the waiting area was kind of crowded. We got a text with a link to check our place in line on the app and when you clicked it, it directed you to download an app when clicked it said the app did not exist. So we decided to walk back inside so we could hear if our name was called. We wernt called but got a text. We walked up and they seemed confused when we said we got a text. They re asked how many people we had or if we needed high chairs or booster seats when we were asked the first time. We were then seated at a table next to the kitchen, we could see the cooks on the grill. The entire time we heard people yelling order and corner which kind if ruined the whole evening. We got seated and waited then waited and waited some more. Finally a waitress came over and said let me set the dishes in the back and I'll be right back then we waited and waited again probably another 10 minutes. She came back with water and we got to order but we order our food as well because we didn't want to wait anymore. She brought out the soda several minutes later. But my wine took 28 minutes from us sitting down. She came over and told me she would be right back with it about 10 minutes before she actually brought it. That is a bit ridiculous like come on. A couple minutes later our food came out. Like i just got a drink but anyway she brought it out. It took about 4 minutes to get a soda refill so that isn't too bad. The food is always good, like I said we love the food that isn't the problem. While eating our food we kept smelling everything the kitchen was cooking which wasn't pleasant it throws off all your senses because you smell one thing but are eating something completely different. I did notice that several of our servers tables around us were raising their hands and needed help but our server was no where to be found. And a new table got seated next to us and it took her a really long time to go over there and help them and they were looking frustrated as well. They ended up having a different server because ours couldn't handle the extra table. Our server did come by and ask if we needed anything 2 times once some of her tables left, we asked for a soda refill which took another 6 minutes. Once we were ready to check out we had to wait a bit again. She came back and took our parking pass and then disappeared again. She brought back the ticket and before we could even give her out card she left again. Then we waited some more and walked past us several times before she came back. Our waitress was super nice she just is in a section way too big for her it was way too much for her to handle. Like i said we love the food here and this is our go to place at Westgate but after this experience we may have to take a break for a bit to see if the staff can...
Read moreWas in Arizona for a baseball tournament and it was late and saw this open, and was craving sushi...Came to Kabuki w my son to do an on the spot order To-Go. The front wait staff named Victoria took my order, i paid, then waited. I was there a little after 9pm.... My son and i were waiting on one of the benches inside the restaurant. It was taking forever and one server was kind enough to ask me what name my order is under... i said my name, and she handed me a bag. So my orders worth $178 USD had been sitting on the reception counter and this gal named Victoria did not even bother letting me know our order was ready thinking she works for a Japanese restaurant w fresh fish that can't be in room temp and mind you, i was right there sitting with my 7-yr old son until close to 10pm. I confronted her after and she said "she didn't know". she was not sincerely apologetic as I left and saw her from the outside smirking. What kind of customer service will let fresh sushi sit on the counter expecting for customers who are waiting to come up. how hard was it for her to say. "order ready for..... (INSERT NAME)". The nightmare didn't end there. Came back to our hotel, and the order wasn't correct. On my receipt, i had a Salmon Roll which I ordered specifically for my 5-yr old daughter, but they gave us Salmon Roe. as in fish eggs nigiri.. see photo. and NO WASABI.- see photo. how do you not automatically have WASABI when we ordered 9 orders of Sashimi. that'x 36 slices of Fresh Sashimi, one roll of sushi, a wrong order of nigiri? You do not include wasabi if a customer requests not to have wasabi. I did not state i didnt want it. With that said, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. It's a chain and I should have known better. Stick with a local, authentic sushi restaurant that has better customer service and is knowledgeable and authentic enough to have wasabi in every sushi order. Food wise, the sashimi is mediocre. If you are a traditionalist sushi afficionado, this place doesn't have great high quality cuts, but definitely a whole list of sushi rolls if you're a sushi newbie or you're into that thing. they have bentos too but no shioyaki, just basic teriyaki and katsu types. Food has potential but not there yet.
We called to complain and it took about a 15min wait to get to a person, and they resolved the issue by first being difficult saying delivery isn't an option and the only thing they can give us is a discount on our next order. My husband listed 3 things they messed up on, - the sushi sitting on counter forever, no wasabi, and wrong order and that's when they only agreed to remove the salmon roll from total and give 20% off on top of the total. I will believe it until i see it reflected on the amount charged on my card. How can you not just take accountability and accept your mistake in the beginning of the conversation and apologize and own up to it rather than changing the narrative making it feel like we dropped the ball and...
Read moreI'll begin by saying that my review is based on eating at a premium Japanese restaurant, not your garden-variety Japenese or Asian cuisine. The prices are so high that it demands a review for an exceptional eatery. Also, this review comes from one who has eaten excellent sushi and other Japanese foods all over the world.
That said, if you want to have enjoyable food, this place is good. You'll have nice flavors and portions to satisfy most diners. If you go at lunch and get the specials, it makes it less painful to the pocketbook. However, even getting all lunch special items and not having drinks, two of us dropped $70 on 3 items. When you come at a normal time, expect $40-50 per person just on food.
First, we had side salads. These were a 6/10. They were small but had a pretty nice herbal/vinegar dark sauce. Presentation was standard. There was nothing else interesting, but the ingredients were high quality.
Next, we had a spicy tuna roll and a nigiri sampler. This item was Sushi Moriawase. The tuna rolls were a 4/10 and were barely suitable for a mid range restaurant. The tuna was not spicy, and though the meat portion was generous, the overall flavor profile was unimpressive. There was no pop or good flavor blend. The Nori was unacceptable. It was so tough that it actually made it hard to chew.
The nagiri was the best item we ate. The meat was very high caliber and cut well, aside from the shrimp that wasn't as tender as a premium offering. Ity was a 7/10. The tuna, salmon, albacore, and yellowtail were set on a perfect size bed of rice and we so tender that they came apart with almost no force. I give these a 9/10. The texture was awesome, ranking amongst the best locations in the city. Still, it clearly is not the best.
Last, we had spicy miso ramen. Presentation was okay but on the weak side. I give the Ramen a 6/10, as you can get better, cheaper Ramen all over the city. The spice was very weak, and there was no offering of the spicy sauce to heat it up. The miso flavor was good but not great. The ratio of Ramen to toppings was off, leaning far too heavily toward the Ramen. It gave the bowl a cheap feeling. The pork was also not sufficiently cooked. it was okay, but not that delightful tenderness of a properly cooked slice that melts into your Ramen bite. Sprouts, mushrooms and the other toppings were likewise too small.
Service was top tier. The employees here are very good, attending to you, the meal pace and any needs. I was very impressed with their kindness and competence.
Otherwise, the atmosphere of the place is good and the design is fun. A trip to the bathroom is a must so you can enjoy the off tangent walls and tile! It is situated nicely on the second floor right in front of the arena and looks out over the courtyard. They have good seating inside and out, along with a well stocked bar.
At the end of the day, a trip is good, but not particulary interested...
