4.6/5 ### Pure Pastry Bliss at Sweet Demi Lune Bakery: The Peach Danish That Stole My Heart! (AIR FRIED is 4.8/5)
Tucked away in the sunny Montrose neighborhood of Glendale at 3600 Ocean View Blvd, Sweet Demi Lune Bakery & Cafe is the kind of hidden gem that makes you question why you ever settled for anything less than French-inspired perfection. This family-owned haven, run by a passionate husband-and-wife duo, radiates warmth from the moment you step through the door – think sparkling clean counters, a cozy modern vibe, and an outdoor porch begging for lazy afternoons with foothill views. Open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (and Sundays till 3 p.m.), it's the ideal pit stop for locals or anyone wandering Glendale's charming streets. The air? Thick with the symphony of buttery croissants, fresh-brewed coffee, and that unmistakable allure of high-quality ingredients baked fresh daily. Vegetarian and vegan options abound, ensuring no one leaves disappointed.
But let's cut to the chase: the peach Danish here is nothing short of a revelation, earning a solid 4.6/5 in my book – and that's being generous with the stars. Flaky layers of laminated dough cradle ripe, juicy peaches that burst with summer sweetness, all glazed in a subtle almond cream that ties it together like a love letter to patisserie tradition. It's not overly sweet (thank goodness!), letting the fruit's natural tang shine through each golden, shatteringly crisp bite. The texture? Divine – that perfect contrast of tender fruit against the airy, butter-laced pastry that melts on your tongue. I devoured mine with a steaming latte, and it transported me straight to a Parisian sidewalk café, minus the jet lag. At around $5, it's a steal for this level of artistry.
That said, if they experimented with an air-fried twist – crisping it up for extra caramelized edges without the heaviness – oh man, it'd skyrocket to a flawless 4.8/5. Imagine those peaches caramelizing just a touch more, the dough achieving god-tier crunch... it's the kind of innovation that would make this already stellar spot legendary. But even without it, this Danish is a must-order, especially alongside their Kouign-Amann croissants or fruit tarts that have Yelp raving (124 reviews and counting!).
The staff? Attentive angels who'll guide you through the display case like old friends, recommending pairings that hit every time. Prices are fair – no chain-shop gouging here – and the portions generous enough to share (or not). In a city bursting with coffee spots, Sweet Demi Lune stands tall as Glendale's bakery soul: authentic, inventive, and utterly addictive. I've already plotted my return for that potential air-fried upgrade and a dozen more Danishes to hoard. If you're in the area, detour now – your taste buds deserve this joy. Five stars for the experience; the peach Danish alone is worth...
Read moreI was gonna stop by Berolina, but it’s July 5th and they were closed. I literally didn’t know where else to go so I googled “bakery” in Berolina’s parking lot and came across Sweet Demi Lune. They’ve been open 11 months. I thought I’d give it a shot cuz I saw pictures of a Kouign-amann. Here’s my review —
I went around 8:45am on a Friday morning (right after July 4 holiday) so it was pretty slow. The display shelves were pretty empty so I wasn’t sure if they were open yet, but they were just grabbing all the freshly baked pastries from the back. There’s just two guys right now who bake and maybe co-own the place? I spoke to one of them for a bit while waiting for some freshly baked pastries and he was really nice!
I got the -almond croissant: owner highly recommended. It did not disappoint!! -house kouignamann (has a citrus custard filling): flakey, crispy, with a yummy filling. Custard wasn’t as citrus-y as I thought it would be, but it also wasn’t too heavy so I still thought it was yummy -peach cobbler/danish?: I thought this was the gonna be the least appetizing but it was also really good! The peach wasn’t too sweet and the pastry part was still flaky enough -chocolate croissant: honestly only got it cuz it’s so pretty (bottom left in the box photo) but it was also good -raspberry pistachio..strudel? The flavor combo was great!! Could use even a little more pistachio but the combo compliment works.
Overall everything was super yummy! I believe the cost is $4-6 for the pastries, so my total was a little under $30 for 5 pastries. The friends I shared these with also enjoyed everything! The take out box is also SO pretty! I’ll def...
