I'm always on the lookout for good Thai food. While I had found one back home in Sacramento, I hadn't really found a go-to joint in LA (surprisingly). Thai Food Express...welcome to the group!
With an expansive menu, delicious food, and ridiculously cheap prices this place is a no-brainer. Drive on down here and eat, you'll thank me later.
Atmosphere: 3.5/5 -- This is this place's only downfall, sadly. If you don't go expecting a dinner experience, it's not a big deal. -- Notice the word "express" in the name. This is mostly a takeout place, with a few tables (3 or 4) for the lucky patrons who snag a table. -- This is a real hole in the wall experience, but me and my girlfriend are totally okay with it. It's not dirty at all, so don't worry. -- As far as parking goes, there's basically the side of the street (which is pretty busy). There's parking around the ways, but we've been lucky enough to snag a front spot.
Service: 4.2/5 -- You can call and order your pick up food, which has always gone smoothly. -- Based on what I can tell, the place is run by a couple and their daughter. Their daughter does everything at once. It's impressive, and makes you feel a little bad for her to be honest. She cooks 3 meals at once, answers the phone, takes payment, makes small talk, and juggles bowling pins. Every time we've gone, she's cooking. I think every meal is cooked by her. -- Their takeout service is really quick. -- They also have a Sushi2Go service I've never tried or really inquired about, if you're in the mood. I love sushi, but I wouldn't choose that over this.
Food: 5/5 -- Dude, the food is delicious. We haven't had a dish there we haven't loved. The ingredients are always fresh, perfect spiciness you ask for, and big portions. -- The pad thai is good, but honestly not our favorite here. But we might just not be pad thai kind of people. -- Their drunken noodles are amazing, along with their garlic pepper chicken, and grilled squid. Their menu looks delicious, and I'm sure you would like anything they make. -- We intend on trying everything else.
Price: 5/5 -- The price here is damn impressive. Pretty much every dish is priced between $7-$8, give or take. -- Cheap, delicious food. What more...
Read moreI always love to support local shops, especially family business. We came here based on overwhelming positive reviews on Yelp, but it turned out a bit disappointing. Start from the place. When we arrived, I was shocked by the look of the business. It looks outdated and run down. But we decided to give it a try. It's a shame not giving them an opportunity simply because of the outside look of the store. When we sat down I just realized I forgot to do more research on vegan/vegetarian options at this place. Good thing we asked. Only Pad See Ew and fried rice and be made in vegan. I was hoping that I could get some curry for the night. The chef/staff/daughter of the owner told us the curry paste they use have shrimp sauce in it already. No luck. The food was just ok I'd say. Pad See Ew tastes more like pan fried flat noodles than any other Pad see ew I have ever had. I've been to Thailand a quite few time. I think I know how it should taste. The Thai veggie salad was ok, too. The Peanut sauce was good; about 80% of the veggies salad was iceberg. Side ordered broccoli was Half cooked. Tap water was very decent. (Ha) On top of that, if you dine in, you'd constantly get to smell the smoke from the kitchen. Right, it's an open kitchen at the front. Three starts are for the staffs and the good portion of food. I understand it's not easy to run small business in LA. But I truly hope they can do better...
Read moreThis place caught my eye driving by based on the name which seemed more sophisticated then the usual "Thai palace, Thai town, etc." I've had alot of mediocre Thai food in California, here, San Diego, sf, oakland, etc. And I've had some really good Thai food as well. Generally speaking, I'm used to disappointment. I don't expect la area Thai food to be good, just edible. Compared to that usual experience, Thaiger is like, actually GOOD Thai food. It's not like, haute cuisine, and the 'pan asian' dishes gave me pause but like, every dish was really great. It also wasn't super heavy like average Thai food...
