Wow. The host and owner just refused me and my service animal entry into their restaurant because I couldn't provide our "papers" (even though he is clearly a service animal-- vest and all). In the nine years my service animal and I have been going everywhere together--I have never experienced such disrespect. I informed them that what they were doing was not legal and they just continued to .. I think the word is Mansplain.... to me their false understanding of the service animal rules here in Colorado.
When I called back and suggested they update themselves, the owner hung up on me.
Well, poor business owner--here is the information you're missing:
Under the ADA, a [restaurant] may not ask you questions about your disability or demand to see certification or other proof of your animal’s training or status. If it is not apparent what your service animal does, the establishment may ask you only whether it is a service animal, and what tasks it performs for you.
Aka you're allowed two questions: (1) Is the dog required because of your disability? and (2) What task does it perform?
The person with a service animal cannot be asked any other questions, such as to provide additional proof besides a vest. Business owners should keep in mind that many disabilities are hidden disabilities and though the need for the dog may not be obvious, that does not mean that it is not a service dog.
What you and your host did today was illegal and a form of discrimination and you will not get away with this. I expect an apology or you will be hearing from my lawyer and the ADA.
NOT ALL DISABILITIES ARE VISABLE!!!!
I probably wasnt missing much anyway. There were no cars in the parking lot and that's usually a sign of poor food and service. Surely a reflection of the owner's attitude towards...
Read moreThis place has found its niche in a place full of baby boomer suburbanites that must have never ventured out of Golden to have authentic and good Mexican food. Met my college student son, who was seated before we arrived. The place was empty, yet he was placed at the worst table in the joint, next to the servers station. So for our entire experience, we got to have them all standing right next to table. This place has zero ambiance. We had the older gentlemen, possibly owner, as our server. I felt as though he was slightly put off having to serve us. Everything felt rushed as though he wanted to get us in and out as quickly as possible. Food is very overpriced for quality. I ordered fajita burrito, thinking it would come with usual fajita fixings. I got a tortilla with chicken in some type of bland sauce, minimal onions and green peppers. No guacamole, no sour cream, no extras, all for $14. I requested a side of guac, which when the bill came, was $5 and was a small dollop! We had to request for chips to be refilled. The young bus boy with glasses was the only friendly and professional face. For a total bill of $65+ for three, we could have definitely spent our hard earned dollars somewhere where we at least felt our business was appreciated and...
Read moreWe were really excited to try this spot out after hearing good things from locals but we were sorely disappointed. From the moment we walked in the door the experience just went downhill. We were seated outside which was nice with the cooling misters on a hot day. But then we proceeded to wait 20 minutes for anyone to come to our table. The restaurant was about half capacity and there was lots of staff. We tried several times to catch someone’s attention to at least get a menu as they rushed by to no avail. Finally 25 mins in we got menus and some chips and salsa. Then we waited another 15 for the waitress to return for our drink orders. We ordered everything at once because we were sure when she would return again. We got a margarita and an horchatarita, two burritos and taco salad. We also ordered the Chile cheese fries to start since we were starving after having waited so long. They completely forgot our appetizer and we never saw the waitress to ask about it until she brought out our entrees and drinks quite some time later. They wouldn’t refill chips and salsa and generally ignored us at every turn. The food was fine, nothing to write home about. The service was so abysmal and the food mediocre I can easily say I will...
