My wife and I love to support local businesses and food/restaurants - and often will make a date out of it. On a recent Friday night, we were starving for a delicious burger, and thought we'd give this place a try. From the prior reviews that I have read - you don't have to be Hispanic/Latino or other race to get the same sour ball and grumpy customer service from the bald cashier gentleman at the front taking orders. Wife gave him her order: saying "A single patty hamburger..." at the start of her order... after she stopped speaking: "DO YOU WANT A SINGLE - DOUBLE or TRIPLE PATTY burger?" ...as if she didn't say anything about it. Then it was my turn: Single patty burger (but said more louder and clearer, speaking politely & slowly, making sure he heard clearly. "DO YOU WANT A SINGLE - DOUBLE or TRIPLE PATTY burger?" with a scowl. So I had to repeat myself. What an inconvenience to take our order I am sure. We waited - just 2 orders of burgers and fries ( I ordered sweet potato fries), for at least 25-30 minutes. They only made 1 burger, and forgot the second. The people who ordered after us (3 people/3 orders of burgers and fries) got their food and bald gentlemen brought it to them. Never though to walk up to us and apologize for the delay with our order. Nothing. Just avoided eye contact. Eventually - our takeout order was ready and out the door we went. But you'd think - a take out order would have food that is hot/extremely warm - right?! Maybe covered in an aluminum lined wrap? Nope. Got home 5-6 minutes later, sat down and it was barely room temperature. DO NOT order the sweet potato fries. They were COLD clumped together - and no seasoning to give them flavor. How could it be possible to get cold food. Remember when they only made the one burger and needed to make the other? Yup - the food that was ready - sat on the counter for the time it took to make the 2nd burger (approximately 10+ minutes) just losing temperature. $13.00 + burgers/food (is something you would pay at Applebee's or TGI Friday's) should be of higher quality and hot/warm when consumed. Sammy's failed at this. So I am not one to tell people what to do. Go, see if the bald man up front will treat you like a human being (50/50 chance - he was super nice to some customers) and the food could be cold and regret your choice to have even entertained the thought to try this place.
If you have BRAND NEW CUSTOMERS: First impression makes the difference whether or not you get repeat customers. Basic and simple logic. If this place ever had that kind of customer service - it's absent. If it once had good food - it's not being serviced here. I really wanted this place to added to places to go back to....
Read moreI was excited to try Sammy’s for the first time and stopped by a little after 8 pm on Monday night. Unfortunately, my experience wasn’t great. Since I’d never been there before, I took a little extra time looking over the menu to make sure I made the right choice. When I wasn’t ready to order right away, the staff member helping me seemed visibly impatient, sighing and rolling her eyes.
I understand working in customer service can be tough, but a little patience and friendliness go a long way—especially when welcoming a first-time customer. Simple things like offering recommendations or asking if I had any questions would’ve made me feel more comfortable and excited to order.
On top of that, the internet was down, so it was cash-only, and I was asked if I could get my order to-go because someone was coming to power wash. Altogether, it felt like my presence was more of a hassle than a welcome opportunity to serve a new guest.
I genuinely believe experiences like this are where customer service is starting to fall short. A bit more warmth and attentiveness would’ve completely changed my impression. I hope this feedback helps because I know first impressions matter, and there’s a lot of room here to create a better one.
EDIT: I ended up driving 20 minutes to Central Phoenix to go to Lenny’s, a familiar favorite. I was a little bummed because I wanted to try something new and closer to home, but the service and overall vibe at Lenny’s were a lot better.
For example, when we arrived, the staff was cleaning the lobby but immediately came to the register to take our order without hesitation. I wasn’t sure what to get, but they waited patiently while I decided. After ordering, we grabbed a booth and started looking around for mustard. One of the staff overheard us mention it and immediately asked if we wanted him to bring some over. We said we’d wait until our food was ready, but the fact that he noticed and offered without us asking stood out.
While waiting, my boyfriend noticed a difference between the hours posted online and the hours on the door. Again, without being prompted, the staff overheard our conversation and came over to clarify that the lobby was open until 10, and the drive-thru until 11.
It’s small gestures like these—balancing cleaning, preparing to close, and still making customers feel welcome—that make all the difference. This level of attentiveness and willingness to help is exactly what would have turned my experience at...
Read moreNow not the "Best Bacon Cheeseburger Combo!" in Goodyear, AZ
I have to retract my previous review, I have been to Sammy's many times since they opened and was grateful, they came to Goodyear, since my last review.
But they keep letting me down. Their soda fountain has chemical after taste, you can smell it venting off the soda coming from the Pepsi selection and taste it from the Dr. Pepper and Root beer for sometime now, I know Sammy has tried to repair , but the issue is not resolved.
Today, the wife and I, for our lunch date, stopped in for a Bacon Cheeseburger Combo, hoping the soda fountain had been repaired by now, which to our pallets was not , to add to our frustration, both the wife and I received 1 1/2 strips of bacon on our Bacon cheeseburgers and the hamburger patty was same size as a McDonald's cheeseburger patty.
The wife ordered onion rings and they tasted old and recooked.
So we are done trying to support this local burger shop, the quality and attention to detail is poorly lacking and their food prices have increased exponentially to $9.49 for a Bacon Cheeseburger Combo that has 1 1/2 strips of bacon. 1 ounce cups of ranch dressing are .50 cents extra.
Furthermore, the two girls attending today 08/09/19, were not pleasant and made us feel very unwelcome. We paid $29.75. I did not complain today as it just falls on deaf ears.
Sammy, good luck to you and your crew. I truly wish you the best. Please post when you have repaired or replaced your soda fountain and maybe select members of your crew. As they are a liability as much as your soda fountain.
As for now my family and I will go to Red Robin where the staff is always courteous, the fries our bottomless and the ranch dressing is a cost of doing business, just like ketchup, mustard, tapatio, and the soda doesn't taste like a chemical dispensary.
We gave you the benefit of the doubt and multiple second chances much to our dissatisfaction. Kenneth...
