We couldn’t wait to try The Lucky Bucket! We’ve walked past many times to see golden brown fish and perfectly cooked fries. Finally, we planned out a trip downtown. It is located in downtown Grand Haven in the social district. (A block that is blocked off from traffic and home to drinks and restaurants. There are picnic tables and you can have open alcohol on this block. There are many corn hole games that anyone can use. Super cute!) This restaurant is a walk up and order place. They call your name when your order is ready and there are tables on the side of the building where you can sit. (Or you can sit in the social district) They have a very limited menu, which was fine with us. Makes it easier to decide what to have. My husband got the fish and chips basket (cod) and I got the whitefish basket. It came with regular fries or “stinky” fries. We each got something different so we could both try everything. The only other thing on the menu is a fish sandwich, which we didn’t try. Our baskets came with coleslaw and homemade tartar sauce, which was soooo good. The cod was excellent 10/10. The whitefish was not as good 7/10. Regular fries 10/10. “Stinky” fries had garlic and Parmesan on the top. It was a lot of garlic and clumped in the middle. We both didn’t care for them. 2/10. We will definitely be back but we would both get the fish and chips (cod) basket and regular fries next time. We live in Grand Haven and very rarely go downtown. We loved the atmosphere of the downtown district and stayed there for the rest of the evening.

The fish and chips are cod, and crinkle cut fries. The meal included two small pieces of deep fried fish and a lot of fries and small cup of coke slaw. The cole slaw was good. Perhaps I got here too early, about 2:40. The fish was extremely greasy! I had taken a half dozen napkins and those were quickly saturated with oil, I got ten more and that was barely enough! I have hopes they will get their deep fryers dialed in and resolve the greasy oil problem. I'll give them another try next year. With this location the food quality will not affect their business in summer, they will be busy regardless (look at Pronto Pups) Ok so I went back during the art festival in late June '25. They now have a deep fried and battered walleye basket on the menu. It was in far less greasy than my first experience, but still quite greasy, fries were better too. It's not much fish for the $20, but it's tourist cuisine, so what can one expect. I walked over to odd side ales with my basket and a beer helped all the grease go down.

Visited Grand Haven today and thought I’d try some fish and chips to my surprise they were almost $18 plus tip for a one 2 pc meal no drink. Since it was a one and done I was okay with it. It took just under 20 mins and when food finally came out from the back it was placed on the counter behind the person taking orders and sat for at least 5 mins getting cold. Fish was way overcooked on the outside and nearly raw in the middle taste was bitter like old cooking oil. Very small pieces and fries were cold would not recommend this place find a nice pub instead. Threw food in trash before I thought to take a pic.

My wife and I had the pleasure of visiting last night and even with a 10 minute wait to order and another 10 get our food you could see they were working their tails off, plus we had beer from odd side and a great view so what’s not to like. The fish was amazing and not greasy in the least. The coleslaw alone would bring me back but truly for me one of the highlights had to be the attitude of the owner and the workers. Like I said they were busting their butts to get everyone fed but with their smiles and graciousness it felt like an Italian thanksgiving where everyone was just having a great time and happy...
