Surf Shop Grand Haven — Local services in Grand Haven

Went in yesterday, 7/31 to purchase and shop. When we entered, we weren't greeted, no big. The young lady had a fellow young person visitor keeping her company and chatting at the front register. We spent 10 minutes looking at shoes and I had to go to the register to ask a question, no one came and offered help. She did answer kindly, but still.

Shopping continued and we purchased a pair of male flip flops, female sandals, and a women's one piece suit. She rang us out and we discussed surfing in Michigan, which she's super passionate on I guess, cool for her. Around an hour later, we get a notification to approve the charge because we're from out of town. We realize the total is very low. We review the contents of the bag, immediately realize she didn't ring us up for the 90+$ suit, but did let us leave with it and bagged it herself.

We returned to the shop to pay for the suit. The was a young man sitting in a chair toward the front, but not behind the register. Just said hey. We realized then he worked there so he got up and off his phone to go behind the register. We explained the situation. He charged us. We paid. Even made a joke the young lady should be more alert. And as we were CROSSING the exit, he shouted "thank you". I'm not sure he realized it, but we took time out of our day trip enjoying the festival to go back to our vehicle parked far, review contents of bag, drive backed to store, pay for the item, and do the right thing. A sincere thank you or even acknowledgement of our time and statement of he'll review this with his co worker or management would have been appreciated.

Overall, they have a good selection. I'm from Florida, so it's standard surf shop apparel and somewhat marked up due to being name brand. If you like those brands and quality, you'll find something to enjoy.

But the younger staff could get a little more training on customer service, attention to detail, and general service...

Had a GREAT experience with the Surf Shop’s beach rental today. Being local, I was able to wait until the last minute to book at home after checking the conditions and had no issues with availability…on a FRIDAY in July no less! Everything was promptly ready for me when I got there. A life jacket is included in your rental, but I had my own. The person who got me started gave me a little extra flexibility with the time I needed to have the paddleboard back, which made the experience much less stressful-no need to worry about being a little late and getting charged extra. Price is very reasonable compared to other spots nearby, especially if you just want to go out for a couple of hours. Rylan was great with getting me checked out and on my way when I got back. Horrible place owner was a witch with a capital B did a spur of the moment trip decided to grab some swim apparel stopped in the surf shop (only place we could find) Everything overpriced and the owner a horrible person to customers and employees would never recommend
