Hubby and I had a lovely time and a fantastic meal at La Hacienda today! We like to visit Grants Pass to go to their fancy kitchen store and often we head towards Medford to get food but today we stopped at La Hacienda and we were very glad we did. It wasn't very busy which can sometimes make a person feel like they've gone to the wrong spot but nope... This was the right spot. Corn chips were fresh and just salty enough and they came with warm refried beans and a delicious salsa (maybe slightly thin even for a cooked salsa) but very tasty. We both had fajitas: one chicken and one steak. I know fajitas can seem like a gimmick but they are such a delicious treat and not something we make at home (unlike tacos and burritos) and they can be done wrong! But not here. These fajitas were delicious! The meat and veggies were in just the right size of chunks and all of it well seasoned and perfectly prepared. Good quality flour tortillas, good rice and beans, a healthy scoop of guac and our server asked us if we wanted extra spicy salsa and we got not one, but two delicious salsas to complement the meal. These fajitas were also not overpriced and not too much food. At 15.99 a plate it was actually less than we've paid at other places but still an ample serving. Honestly places can go over the top with the fajitas, oversized platters of impossible to finish portions for 30 bucks..and this wasn't that thankfully. A really perfect amount of food for a reasonable price and we still had leftovers. It was our first visit and we'll be back. Thanks to everyone who helped make our meal so...
Read moreOur maiden voyage into La Hacienda. We've driven by for years, but the location is such that getting in and out of the parking area makes for a difficult landing and takeoff. It's just much easier to drive by and choose another restaurant.
This time, however, we made the conscious decision ahead of time and pulled in. We're Happy we did! This place is a little jewel tucked almost out of sight.
I ordered birria tacos, while my beautiful better half had crispy pork tacos. She says that LaHa is now her favorite Mexican place! (That was fast). The pork was slow roasted and was in large tender chunks. What's not to love there? My dish tasted great with the rich, smokiness of the slow cooked beef, but I have a couple of comments: the tacos were fried in the pan with the birria sauce, which is awesome. The problem I had was that all three tacos were melted together and I had to use a knife and fork to eat them. Not a deal killer, but I like picking tacos up with my hands.. doh. Also, the dipping sauce didn't appear to be the birria sauce, but a watery clear broth that was somewhat flavorless. It had to be said.
We will be definitely be coming back; the menu has some very interesting and tasty sounding dishes. Oh, the drinks seem spendy for what we got, but overall a good experience.
Make sure to slow down as you approach so you don't overshoot the parking lot. This little place is...
