Sonic Drive-In — Restaurant in Grapevine

Honestly, this Sonic location in Grapevine puts all nearby Sonics (Tarrant and especially Dallas County) to shame in so many ways. And when I go to other Sonic locations, it just makes me appreciate that my regular location (Grapevine) is easily the best (FYI, the Sonic in Bedford is probably second best).

What makes this location great starts with the way the restaurant is maintained. The screens on ALL of the stalls are usually working (something Dallas locations struggle with). And the whole place is not only clean, but they have flower gardens, clean public restrooms, and will theme the outdoor dining area to major holidays (Halloween, Christmas).

While that would be a huge improvement for other locations; this Sonic location doesn't just stop there. They have (by far) the best staff of ANY Sonic that I've ever been to. They are so incredible (and I go there almost daily) that I'm on a first name basis with some of them (Coni, Denise, and Emily stand out). It's got a kind of family vibe and I always feel welcomed when I visit.

Now take all of this, then add the incredible app that not only gives you all day half-price discounts on drinks and allows you to order in advance (making my order available as soon as I pull up); and this combination of fast-food bliss makes it incredibly difficult for me to go anywhere else (especially for huge inexpensive drinks, tater tot cravings, or ice cream fixes - which - as the staff probably knows- is mostly why I visit this location).

What's funny is, I'm not a fan of Sonic's burgers (their meat just tastes funny to me) and I'll still eat them here from time-to-time because this location, staff, and app makes the experience so pleasant and easy.

Update - 10-15-22 After I posted my original review below the manager assured me that the staff had been informed to give the customer their change back. All was well until today. Ordered a Route 44 cup of ice for a total of .49 cents. Wyatt brought it to me and I handed him a $5 bill. He went back inside and came back with four $1 bills. I said excuse me I gave you a five, he looked straight at me and said “Oh you are not tipping today. I will be right back.” He came back with .50 cents and in a very sarcastic tone said “By the way we only make $3.00 an hour.” I asked to speak to the manager and the assistant manager came out and I told him what this very disrespectful young man said. He apologized and I told him I raised my kids to be respectful and certainly not keep people’s money. This young man does not understand tipping and needs to be taught you do not say and do that to paying guest. I decide if I want to tip and if he would have acted properly he would have gotten one but to “steal” my money and then try to guilt me is not right. Food is tasty and served hot but the item that bugs me the most is you have to beg for your change and then they tell you they have to go get it which makes my visit even longer. I can honestly say that this was the best experience I’ve ever had at a Sonic.

I ordered a chicken sandwich combo (light Mayo, add tomato) with medium groovy fries and a medium diet Dr Pepper with easy ice. We also ordered a Whacky Pack chicken tenders with apple sauce and an apple juice.

I waited maybe 5 minutes at most for my food and when it arrived, the car hop was SO friendly. She greeted me with a big smile and handed over my food and listed everything as she handed over to make sure I received everything I ordered.

She really was so friendly and it really made my experience wonderful from the start. She was a wonderful person to encounter. If you get Denise, you’re in great hands!

Now let’s talk about the food. I’ve never had such fresh and delicious food from a Sonic. To be fair, I don’t go that often. But the chicken sandwich was EXACTLY the way I ordered it. Light in the Mayo and with tomato. Delicious!

THOSE FRIES!!! 😍😍😍 Perfectly crispy and seasoned. I did not know the new Sonic fry game was so strong. If you haven’t tried those things, get to a Sonic NOW!

And finally, the drink…. I can’t tell you how many times I order light ice at Sonic and it’s still SO much ice. This was the first time it’s been exactly what I wanted. LIGHT ice.
