Smoked. Wow. 1 sentence review? Best BBQ in town. But if you need detail I'll try. The Bbq joint with the pig in front. If the name doesn't fit this establishment the big PiG in for t will. This has become a local mascot for the bbq joint. A mix of vintage with a new age twist. As the smell lures you in like a finessed fly fishing jig. Open the door. It hits you. Like your cold feet on a weight scale in the morning. Any thought of dieting or lowering calorie intake just left like the mist on dam. If the smells dont hit you the line will. Yes line. Why because this town recognizes great food. And if your not early they sell out. Now where in line just drooling looking at the people around you smiling with bbq mustaches. The atmosphere is joy, confidence, and a satisfying feeling of pride supporting local business. The decorative environment makes it feel homely but modern new age vintage if you will. Rustic signs old doors and reclaimed wood surrounds you. Making the vintage collector jealous. Now it's your turn. Dont think just employees work. No! The owners are there helping serving making sure you no doubt gain a pound or two. Satisfied. Now your greeted with a smile. What are you having? Damn. Got caught up in the atmosphere and smells you forgot to look at the menu which is hand crafted and thoughtfully written on "meat paper" giving you the hometown butcher shop feel. In confusion brisket, pulled pork, links.... uh ribs??? Take a deep breath as for a suggestion. Give me the special. Pig Mac. No processed nuggets here my friends. He open the heated fridge Md slabs on meat by the pound. Do t forget the sides. Can't help you there. Toss a 3 sided coin. Coleslaw, beans, Mac n cheese. Your choice. Paid. Now we sit and devour. Right? Wrong! Sauces. Does this delicious meal need the sauces? Heck No! But why not. The few they have there are carefully crafted by the pigs o. Heaven. A mild heat with a thick squeeze. Or a tangy vinaigrette with enough flavor to drink out of it with a straw. Chicken? They got your flavored sauce. No you dont have to peel it back like a cheap sweet n sour dip at Mc D's. Num..num.. Take it slow enjoy the flavor. Enjoy the deep rings and not talking about the nugget on your ring finger I'm talking about the smoke rings of pureness. Deep flavor. Hopefully this review helps you to try this amazing local establishment but I'm hungry and have to eat I only get 1 hour for lunch and I'm debating on seconds. Enjoy you wont be...
Read moreThese awesome and friendly people know how to smoke and BBQ, no doubt about it. The fact that they often sell out super fast is no surprise, but is a bit disappointing... that being said, that's how (real) smoked meats work! You do a run, and once you're out, you're out... and it takes (in my experience) at least 3hrs to put any kind of smoke into any meat, and it often takes substantially longer, sometimes 24hrs!... so you can't just "cook and serve" like a regular restaurant can. So I hope you guys can get more capacity! That being said, don't compromise your near perfect quality to push more product, it is a pleasure to have a truly great BBQ restaurant in Montana. I will definitely be back!
I had a 1lb beef rib, and it was PERFECT, anybody can make decent pulled pork (and SMOKED's is better than decent) and many places can do pretty good pork rib (haven't tried yours, but very much look forwardto it), beef rib is a good test of capability and BBQ tallent... SMOKED does not fail or disappoint, they aced it!
UPDATE: There are some people giving them a poor rating because you can't just sit at the tables... there's good reason for this policy. Smoked has very limited indoor seating, as its a small place... if you don't have food, you need to not hog a table, the people that are rating them poorly for this need to grow up and learn to not be so selfish with a...
Read moreLet’s cut to the chase; Smoked is the best BBQ in Great Falls, probably even in all of Montana. I’ve had good BBQ in a lot of places and this is as good as anything I’ve tasted. This is honest BBQ - smoked to perfection and expertly seasoned. I have been here a number of times and waited to post this review so I could try a few things. Today was pulled-pork. It was tender, moist and delicious. You know it’s good when it doesn’t require any extra sauce. Topped with the house coleslaw, it’s heaven. The smoked turkey is nothing short of mouth-watering. I recommend the Alabama white sauce, which is amazing in it’s own right, but is perfect on the turkey. Come early, because the turkey is popular and sometimes they run out. The brisket is perfect. Period. The sides are also very good, especially the potato salad. Portions are on the generous side and prices are very reasonable. The pulled pork sandwich with a side and a drink was under $12. For the quality of food you get here, that’s a very good value. Staff is friendly and service is quick. Because it’s popular, seating is at a premium during lunch hours. Also, Tuesday is military day with discounts for those who serve or have served our country. Bottom line, if you’re anywhere near Great Falls, do not miss Smoked American BBQ. You will not be...
