I wanted to share a deeply troubling incident of racial discrimination against an Asian customer that occurred at this Panera Bread location on a Saturday morning.
On Sat morning, I ordered a cup of coffee and politely asked the Black female employee for 2% milk. I was told that they had no milk. I double-checked with her multiple times, and she repeatedly insisted they had no 2% milk or skimmed milk. She even told me that they had run out of milk the day before. However, the way she spoke made me sense something wasn’t right, so I asked to speak with a manager.
The White female manager, whose name I believe is "Samoura" or something similar (she refused to spell out her name), went to check and immediately found a large bottle of 2% milk in the fridge. She gave me a small amount, but then told me that Panera is not allowed to serve milk to customers who order coffee—a claim that I know is false from my experiences at other Panera locations. She then said that because I had gotten both coffee and milk, I needed to leave.
When I calmly asked for an explanation and an apology, she instead asked me to leave again and then called 911 on me. She even said some very discriminative languages that I should “leave the store with my milk and go back to Asia where people like milk”. I was shocked and humiliated by this disproportionate and aggressive response to a simple customer inquiry.
A Black male manager then came out. I explained the situation and asked why I was treated this way. He initially said they might have run out of milk, but when he saw the large milk bottle in the fridge, he said nothing—no apology, no clarification, no accountability.
As an customer, I felt I was treated unfairly, lied to, and ultimately criminalized over a cup of coffee and a request for milk. I hope Panera Bread takes this serious complaint of racial discrimination seriously and ensures that all customers are treated with respect and fairness, regardless of their race or background.
Attached are the photos of the 2% milk that I finally got, and the two horrible racists employees at the...
Read moreI have never posted on anything like this but I had probably the worst, most anxiety-heightened experience here. I usually do rapid pick ups because well it helps me out with be around a lot of people. This time I was really thirsty and wanted to ask the cashier for a water cup. I waited in the long line because I didn’t want to be rude. Finally it’s my turn and the phone rings at the store and the cashier puts the finger up at me and says hold on. I say ok and I wait without any issue. She comes back 5 mins later and sees my rapid Togo bag on the counter and say “Ok BYEE!” I said I’m sorry?? She gestures her hand at my rapid pick up bag and shrugs her shoulder then says’ “I said Byeeeee!” Like longer and more exaggerated. I said excuse me? I just wanted a water cup this is my rapid pick up. She huffs and shoves a cup in my hand then goes on to say, “Like I said BYEE!” I felt soo hurt. I have never been treated like this at the one in chapel hill but here in Greensboro, that was just too mean. I take the cup and say no that’s not fair that you can just tell me off. She continued to say bye bye byeeee. Like how rude are people getting over a cup of water? I already paid for my food on the app but to come inside to hear the cashier act like this was too much. I immediately called the supervisor and told her that I already have anxieties being out which is why I love the rapid pick up because I don’t have to interact but this encounter today set me back as far as my hope in future interactions, especially this location! I will not be coming here ever again since clearly she thought I was some free loader or just some she talk to like that. I don’t know if it’s because I look young and that’s how this generation talks but it’s not fair. Treat everyone nicely! Some of us have real anxieties even being out at all! Take notes from the Chapel Hill location! They are extremely kind, they know my face, and know that I am very shy. Extremely rude service at the wendover location...
Read moreRecently we place a fairly large order for delivery, when it arrived on time there was a meal missing. The driver said he had another delivery to make in our building and he would return to the store and bring the missing meal back. The store is 8 minutes away from our location, after more than a half hour of waiting there was still not a meal. I called the store and the girl on the phone was pleasant, but when I told here the issue she told me "yeah, it's really disorganized right now". She told me the food was on the way, then I saw a Panrea delivery coming down the hallway, but it was not our missing food. She said the manager was calling the driver to see where they were. All they said was they were dropping off a delivery and they would then bring our missing food. I then asked to speak with the manager, Tyrelle he was not helpful what so ever, trying to blame the issue of bring our food back on the delivery system and taking absolutely no responsibility. When I asked for him to refund it to the card he said he could not do that and that I had to be in store to do that. And the missing food....still missing. An hour later a confused driver left me a voicemail saying she thought she had my missing food and to call back. So I went to the store, he still was not helpful and said he was not allowed to give refunds over the phone. But is it technically a refund if you charge someone for a service you did not provide. So I had to drive to the store to get money they took without providing what was promised not one but twice, and did not even receive and apology? Is this right? We certainly will not be using them again, and when it gets around to the rest of the building I'm sure they won't be to keen on missing food and lack of responsibility. Oh and we did the tip when placing the order, not knowing if we could add one later, not so sure they deserve the 20%...
