Love all of the little shops in this quaint corner of Greenwich Ave. and had always meant to stop into "the pizza place" for a slice. I would peek in the window and think "eh", maybe someday. Well today I did. Was tired and cold and wanted a quick bite. Never expected to have a transformative experience. For a minute, I felt like I was in "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe". When the owner said that he likes to "grate a little fresh Reggiano and a sprinkle of oregano on each slice, but it it fine if we do not want it", I knew this was no ordinary "pizza place". The homemade, light as a feather but perfectly crisp crust, the cheese, the tomatoes, the homemade sausage, the shiitakes, the pepperoni with hot honey....hard to describe how all of these were elevated to a new level of perfection. Grigg St. Pizza had me wondering, quickly, if I may never have had truly amazing pizza anywhere else. The owner is passionate about the smallest detail but only wants you to sit and enjoy the fruits of the labors of everyone who works there. The entire team was incredibly efficient, nice and friendly. They make it look incredibly easy but it is hard to imagine the work that must go into the creation of all of these otherworldly delights. Making the dough for the crust alone, when the owner explained all the steps involved, sounded like a recipe handed down from Moses. Pure, delicious magic. Even the filtered water they serve in individual carafes is delicious. Seriously, these people know what they are doing. I am sure this will be the next place JayZ tries to rent out for the evening, LOL.On top of everything else, the owner asked if I would like to take home a misshapen pie that they could not sell. I was already thinking that if I had more time, I would have bought one to take home. I love food and could not care less what it looks like, especially if it is as good as Grigg St is. When I got home to look at my "misshapen" treat, I opened the box to see a beautiful, perfect pizza. If it was "misshapen" when we left, it must have been put back together by the "pizza elves" on our drive home because I could not see a single thing wrong with it. Topped with the best olives and onions, which was a new combination for me and now a new favorite. Beside that, I was knocked over by the owner's generosity and thoughtfulness. I was with my mother and it made our night so much more fun to be treated so specially, on our first visit no less. That's how amazing every aspect of this little gem is. Thank you Grigg St.and John for your extra special attention. We...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHad no idea about this place and was actually recommended by my coworker who lives in CT. He showed me Guy Fieriās video of when he went here, and Guy was VERY pleased with the pizza and cheesesteak. I have been to a few other spots recommended by Guy and was pleased with them all.
Read a few other reviews saying they prefer you to put orders in advance because they get very busy. I live about an hour and half away traveling from NY, so I had to map it out and time it appropriately. I ordered 2 pies- 1 cheese and 1 pepperoni. 3 cheesesteaks and 1 mozzarella sandwich for my family to share. When I walked in, it was packed(I completely understand why they prefer ordering ahead), and despite a fairly large order, they had their stuff organized and found mine less than a minute after giving them my last name.
My family and I all agreed on the pizza being really good and tasting like everything is homemade. They cook it just right that the cheese does not fall off, nor was the cheese or pepperoni pizza greasy. The pepperoni had a slight heat to it but mixed well with the cheese. My uncle is very critical with pizza and he was pleased with both pies. My mom said the mozzarella sandwich was very good.
I took one bite of my cheesesteak and let me tell you, that was absolutely heavenly. Had to have been at least a foot long. Every single bite was literally mouthwateringly delicious. The bread, cheese sauce, the steak, onions and peppers- it was all so delicious. I will definitely be making my way out here to get this often. This put the bar VERY high and I highly doubt I will ever find a cheesesteak to beat this.
Prices for all of their food are a little on the pricier end, but for the quality you get, it is worth it. I will definitely pay a little more if it means I am getting decent portions and the food actually tastes good.
I highly recommend Griggs and if you can, put an order in ahead of time. Both the pizza and cheese steaks...

So, I took a foodie pilgrimage based on the legend himself, Dave Portnoyās glowing review. After watching his video, I had to find out if this spot lived up to the hype. Spoiler alert: it totally does. š
I called in my order ahead of timeābecause, you know, I didnāt want my food sitting aroundāand even the owner planned for travel time from Stamford. Now thatās dedication! When I got there? Chaos in the best way. A line out the door, packed to the brim, and no parking to be found. The place is on the smaller side, but itās clean, cozy, and the energy? Electric. The line moved quickly, and before I knew it, I had my order in hand.
š„ The Taste Test š„ Let me tell you, this Philly cheesesteak was an experience. The steak? Tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The onions, cheese, and peppers? Chefās kiss. And that bread? Oh man, it tasted like pizza crustās fancy cousināsoft, chewy, and heavenly. Dave rated it a 9+, and Iām right there with him. This is hands down the best Philly cheesesteak Iāve had in Connecticut (and Iāve been to Philly!).
The only downside? Traffic and parking delayed me, so it wasnāt piping hot, but thatās on me, not them. It was still insanely good.
Shoutout to the super-friendly staff for making the experience even better. If you havenāt been, youāre doing your taste buds a major disservice. Run, donāt walk, to Griggs...
