Dirty salsa bowl, beany weenies and a long wait at the exit cash register. Casa Guiterrez is just another Mexican restaurant, far from the best.

The waitress delivered two salsa bowls with a small carafe of the bland salsa. My wife unstacked the bowls to find one still stained with the last diners left over salsa. A big failure. We flagged the waitress down for a replacement. Salsa picante is essential to blend up an acceptable version with flavor. Ask for it.

My wife went with the Burrito Verde and for me the Fajita Burrito. Both were fairly good with ample servings of meat inside. The beef in my burrito was good lean steak, no unchewable pieces with fresh grilled pepper, onions and tomatoes. Covered with the blended salsa it made a fair meal. My wife’s meal came with a weird version of charro beans. She noticed that the beans had an unusual flavor with her first bite. They tasted different because they were different. The beans were mixed with nickel sized slices of hot dogs. Yep, hot dog slices. Skip the beany weenies and order refried beans.

Time to pay at the counter up by the entrance. We waited …..and waited…..and waited. Finally, a person comes to the counter to process the bill. The restaurant was fully staffed, but apparently only one person is allowed to work the till.

Finally, we are out the door, never to return. Try some of the other restaurants, Better Mexican food can be found in Grove. Average food with adequate table service, concerns with the dishwashing, lousy beany weenies, earns Spike’s 3 star rating = Ok but I won’t be back and will not recommend.

If you are looking for other Mexican restaurants in the area, check out my reviews in my collection "Jalapeno Highway" on Yelp. I've...

#1 In Grove This quickly became the most well liked Mexican restaurant in Grove. The food is perfect, excellent service, consistent hours, and a wide variety. The Chiro Queso dip is unlike anything I have ever tasted before, its magical. This is the place where dreams are made. I truly hope to see this place grow and get its own building somewhere where it stands out more. I love you Casa Gutiérrez. Also SUPER affordable, and they have excellent margaritas.

Edit: They got their own building, and new busier than ever. Have eaten here many more times since they moved, still the best service around. Also yes their beans have hot dogs in them lol, they are Frijoles Charros, not your typical canned...

Excellent!! I was referred by a friend and read all the 5 star reviews before dining and was not disappointed. 5 star service, food and prices. At the recommendation of my server, I ordered the Pollo Gutierrez which is sliced chicken breast covered with sauteed onions and mushrooms with a light creamy sauce. Yum! Chips were warm and the salsa was tasty but too mild for me so the server brought me the hot version which packed some heat and was just right. I ordered lemonade, which unlike most places wasn't over sweetened and very good. The check price before TIP was $14.70. Try it...

Relatively small hole-in-the wall place, which is exactly what what we like. There are probably 10-12 tables. Clean and comfortable — almost too warm inside, but it's summer so we can't complain. The service was EXCELLENT. Friendly, responsive, and unobtrusive. We arrived toward the end of lunch rush and we were seated and had our drinks, chips, and salsa immediately. Chips were warm and the salsa had just a touch of heat to it. We ordered off of the lunch menu (four meals, two iced teas, a bowl of queso, and a side of guac) and it cost us $46 +tip for four adults. We will be back.
