I will NEVER go back again. Neither will my family, or my boyfriend's family after the way the MANAGER spoke to us over an 8 oz. steak. I'm a waitress, I left a tip because it wasn't her fault, but bless the poor soul that has to work at Applebee's with the manager that came out and spoke to us in such a way that we were too floored to even respond until she asked what exactly we wanted them to do.
My boyfriend and I went there for dinner and had a horrible experience, not because the food or the waitresses, really. There were problems, but the waitresses were nice and responsive, even with a large party right next to us. It was when we felt a steak we ordered rare appeared a little overly cooked (it looked to be cooked more medium) and we asked the waitress about it that it all started going downhill. The waitress was very friendly, and we just told her that it seemed a little overcooked. No big deal, she didn't sweat it, she kindly asked if we'd like to send it back and we asked if that's be okay and she took it back.
Then the manager came.
This woman. I didn't catch her name, I was too busy being floored by how openly rude she was to us as she very pointedly seemed to try to lecture my boyfriend and I about how they cook their steaks. If she had just calmly told us that it "met their temperature standards for a rare steak" we would have just taken the food back without another word. It was the fact that if either my boyfriend or I, who both work in customer service, had spoken to a customer the way she did to us, we would have been fired on the spot. If she had talked to our mothers like that, they wouldn't have paid for the meal and she's lucky I paid for mine after that. You do not come out and berate a customer and talk to them like they have caused untold problems and have been terrible guests just for questioning a steak that others would also question because it did not appear to be rare. She asked, quite rudely how we'd rather it be cooked? Browned on the outsides and red in the middle? Well, we felt that was what a rare steak was was and we were still so floored that she was talking to us like we were some 14-15 year old kids who made a mess and were being belligerent and in need of scolding, so we just said yes, that would be okay and sat there in shock. Once she was gone and we recovered a bit, we started talking about the way we were treated, why it was wrong, whatever.
The manager comes back out and brings the new steak. Her tone has very noticeably changed and she seems almost pleasant now. I thought (because I'm a waitress, and I know how stressful it can be) that perhaps the large party they recently sat next to us was the source of her stress and maybe she was taking it out on us or something, however, once the new steak was cut into, I feel it was more because the new steak was uncomfortably cold for my boyfriend to eat. Not wanting to waste the meat again and not wanting to have to bother with the manager sent from hell again, he just ate it anyways.

Read moreMy neighbor and I went for lunch today. I ordered the Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp she ordered a rare 6 oz. Sirloin. Salad was our choice of appetizer only to find out they no longer put bacon bits (which used to be real bacon) on the salads. The tomatoes and cucumbers were diced so tiny you could barely even see them. I seriously doubt there were even a tablespoon between the two in each of our salads. I ordered my meal to have the mushrooms put on the side, I don't like mushrooms so I was going to give them to my neighbor. When my meal came, I had a side dish of mushrooms but also had a plate full. It took me 10 minutes to pick them all out. My meal was cooked fine, there just wasn't any seasoning on the potatoes. I've had this meal several times so I know how it's supposed to taste. My neighbors steak came out medium with a portion being medium rare instead of rare. Her macaroni and cheese had very little cheese on it. We asked for to go boxes because we both have dogs we were going to take the food home to. Our server asked my neighbor if she'd like to speak to the manager and she said yes. When the manager came, she said, " So what's wrong with the food? " My neighbor proceeded to tell her about her food and I was adding in what was wrong with mine, she was never even acknowledging me. When my neighbor finished telling her about her food, the manager then said, "So what are you wanting me to do, comp your meal or give you a discount?" My neighbor told her yes. The manager then just walks off, still never acknowledging me. We were sitting there waiting to find out what the manager was going to do when our server came back by and asked did we need something else. My neighbor told her we were waiting because the manager was supposed to be doing something with our bills. She went to check on it so I went to the restroom. When I got back, my neighbor was paying her bill and told me mine was supposed to be the same, that's what the server told her. I looked at my bill and saw there was no adjustment and realized it wasn't even my bill, plus I felt it was higher than my original bill should have been. The server stopped back by and I told her that wasn't my bill. She tried to tell me it was and I showed her the food on the bill was not what I ordered but what my neighbor had ordered. She wadded it up and went and got me a new bill. It was even higher than the other one was and my meal was supposed to be cheaper than my neighbor's original bill. She asked if I'd like to talk to the manager and I told her no that the manager had an attitude and I didn't want to deal with her again. I told her that I'd never be back again and that I would be writing this review. I live on disability so eating out like this is not something I can afford to do very often. This experience ruined what was supposed to be a nice treat. If I had been able to see the manager's name tag, I would be posting her name. She has no business being a manager. When we first arrived we had little bit of a wait at the front due to the lunch rush I’m sure. Also took notice to a very loud lady at the bar talking about a customer and how someone only wanted free food! Later realized that she was the manager. Upon being seated our server was very kind and very knowledgeable about the menus offering us “ Burger deals with unlimited fries” ultimately we decided on a classic combo “ Appetizer but requested queso cheese dip instead of the spinach artichoke dip” also placed our order for a margarita “ that took 10 mins to be delivered just watched it chillin at the bar! “ my son chose the Honey chicken skillet and I chose to get the Bourbon steak… Up on thinking that the server didn’t ask me how I wanted my steak cooked I flagged her down to ask for a medium well steak “ as she was confused in thinking I wanted a Bourbon chicken “ she was super nice but my son and I was the only one in her section and she seemed to be very occupied. When she brought out our appetizer we noticed the spinach artichoke dip. But the server was off again waiting for her to make her way back to the 1 table she had all we had to do was point and she realized “ No worries mistakes happen” upon receiving our queso it was freezing cold! We are not the ones to complain by no means “ the server felt very sorry and we made no big deal about it…. Our food was delivered shortly there after we’re my Steak was completely over cooked “ boot leather if you will… My son enjoyed his food and let the server know… The server then come an apologized again stating that the manager gave us a discount which wasn’t necessary but appreciated then I got my ticket to see that I had actually been charged for an extra queso and the discounted $3 and a 10% discount for $4.83… So I ended up paying the bill totaling $63.64 And leaving over half the steak and I didn’t touch the fries because the we’re sitting in a very oily substance. I did have a gentleman that come to ask about the food while the server was cashing out my check and I was very irritated at this point that the food was definitely not what I clearly stated I wanted.
