Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers — Restaurant in Gypsum Township

I can remember when Freddy's first opened in Whichita. The weird new restaurant with a big ice cream cone on the roof. I thought - what a weird place, I'm not eating there. Many years later my family took us to a location that had opened in another state so I felt obligated to give it a try. From that day on, I have been a huge fan of Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers. At the core of my approval is the quality of the food. Everything tastes great, the burgers, the hot dogs, the fries, and especially the frozen custard. I have never had frozen custard before, and honestly it didn't sound like something that I wanted to try. But it's exceptional. The locations are neat, well staffed, and well managed. I even got a chance to meet Freddy one evening. He was personally handing out tickets for free meals at the Wichita Rock Road location. Freddy's is absolutely a model for how quick service restaurants should be operated. My only complaint; like so many other food providers, they have fallen into the trap of keeping prices high long after supply chain issues have eased. While I realize labor costs have increased and stayed high, the per person value is hard to justify - even for a great product. I hope they can find a way to manage costs and maybe even lower prices. I would like to eat there many times a week, but I feel like for over $10 per meal per person - it's a dinner only treat...

Went through the drive-through last night and the double burger that was supposed to be free when signing up for the app on Freddy's was only a single... french fries were Stone Cold the lady that I was working for/ buying the food for sent me back to get hot fresh food.... I left the food and she called me to come back to see what she had got from the drive-thru this is ridiculous you cannot tell me that somebody that was cooking on that grill last night did not see the skins of this onion before they put that on the patty melt when prepping this order...the lady choked on these onions...this is unacceptable food service....what if this had been a child???onion overkill.... someone needs some more training before they work on the grill putting food together.... and as for the general manager at Derby Ks location............ this is WHY people complain about food from your restaurant and it being wrong so don't be handing me anymore business cards out the window with corporate numbers on them until your food service improves...... this is only the second complaint that I have had to turn in to this particular restaurant in...

We ordered a double Pattymelt plain, large fries, a double cheeseburger plain, an onion ring & a regular cheese curd. Our total was under $30 (winter 2023) the smashburger was just okay, pretty crispy edges, everything was very salty. And I know it's fast food and everything is supposed to be salty but this was overly salty. The fries had a seasoning on it that was not appealing, they were tiny matchstick style, the onion rings were the type that you bite & the onion falls out of the breading, we sampled a few of their signature sauces, & we were not too fond of them, the cheese curds are good, but it's fried cheese so whats not good about that? Service was fast, service was nice. This location had a drive-thru so the parking lot was packed, the place was popping, they were running out of trays & stuff so yeah, to get our order right & also have it be speedy AND kind, as well was impressive. It is just a strip mall restaurant as well, it's akin to a five guys or another barebones, a few booths, a few chairs, diner place. It's a chain. Didn't know that when we decided to try it.
