So I don't live too far from this place and they have 2 locations in Suffolk. Well another girlfriend of mine (see previous post of a friends recommendation) said the food was good in the Suffolk location so I said ok I'll try it. I should likely insert my parents live in San Diego Ca. So I am there like 2-3 times a year and the have a place that I love and I compare all Mexican food to. Well the hubby and I got to La Paparrilla a little after 7pm on a Wednesday night. Nice crowd. No wait time and we were seated immediately. So we got the customary salsa & chips. I ordered Queso (cheese sauce) and a margarita. The drinks and cheese came pretty quick. First thing I noticed was they somehow served me cold cheese dip. I know that sounds crazy because On would think that cheese would thicken if it was cold but this cheese was in fact "saucy" and luke warm at best. I will say this though, the large margarita is LARGE but at $9.99 I wished it tasted more like liquor and less like store bought margarita. So anyway, the hubby and I both order. He orders shrimp & rice and I order filet de pescado. I asked the waitress what comes with the meal she said "rice with vegetables mixed in" I said ok let me h are that and a side of black beans with extra cheese. All is well right? Nope!! About 13 minutes a guy brings our food to us. I look at my plate and it's dried looking broccoli and cauliflower with what I assume is a piece of fish drowning in that same white cheesy sauce I had earlier. He also places a huge plate of black beans with NO cheese anywhere is sight. So apparently they decided to drown my fish in cheese and when I had a look on my face like "what is this food Harpo" (sorry color purple reference) the guy says what is wrong. I proceed to explain to him none of this is what I ordered and I told him my actual order. He just kind of stared for a second and says "hold on" and walks away. My waitress comes back and asked what's wrong with the food? I told her "this isn't what I asked for, you said this came with rice, where is the rice and why has my fish been drowned in cheese sauce?" She looks at me and says "you asked for extra cheese". I looked back at her and said "I did, on my beans". I asked for a menu so I could find something to eat. No menu appears but another man does. He asks me what the problem is. I explain it to him and he says, ohh hold on I'll get a manager. WHAT IN THE WORLD?!? Well who are you strange man? It was like the commercial where the guy is robbing the bank and the people on the floor are like your a security guard so something and he like I'm not a guard, I just warn you if the bank is robbed, the bank is being robbed. Like who is this dude questioning me about my issues who has no control over it. I digress, so the manager comes over and I recognize him. I am like "hey did you used to work at a Mexican restaurant in Williamsburg? He's like yeah, I said I remember you. I used to work in a jewelry store that he frequented and a co-worker and I used to go there. Anyway I explain to him what's going on and I tell him you know I asked for a Menu so I could order something else and no one wants to bring me one. He's like "ohh I'm sorry how about I bring you what you ordered the way you want it?" I agreed and we once again wait. Meanwhile the hubby is eating away at his shrimp and rice. I did taste it and it was good. But honestly at that point I was so hungry I wouldn't be able to properly access if it was good because it was seasoned and cooked well or if I was just starving. A few minutes later another gentleman walks up and has my food. So they brought me what I asked for. There was no drowning fish on my plate but instead a dried up piece of white meat that I assumed was fish. Again at this point I am starving so I'm like hell WTH I'll try it. Well, ohh I should likely mention I'm sitting in outback right now writing this review. The fish (what I honk was fish) was dry and seasonless. (Yeah I made up a word, seasonless sounded better in my head than bland at the moment). I'd give it 2.5 *s

I usually do not write bad reviews but after the service and food I drove twice to receive I felt like it was necessary. I ordered 3 simple things. Paid $25 for Cheese dip/ chicken dip/ and a salsa dip. I called and ask the woman on the phone if they had a dip that was just chicken and cheese and she told me that there was. She said it was called queso fundido. My family is allergic to chorizo so I made sure to ask her that it was not that kind, so I asked again I want the chicken and cheese. When I arrived I picked up my order and drove home. When I arrived and opened the dips, they gave me the wrong dip. Cheese and chorizo. So I called and said hey I had asked for the chicken and cheese and she said just come back and I'll make it. So I arrived. I tell the gentlemen that asked when I brought the dip back what happened and he proceeded to insinuate that I ordered wrong when in fact the person that took my order was right next to him. She lied and said she didn't take my order when she was the same one who repeated my order when I picked up the first time. When I got home with my food and opened it. My dip is watery chicken and my dip was all spilled on the chips. I've attached pictures to show. Im not upset at all the order was wrong but more at the lack of communication and understanding. I drove twice to pick up my food and I didn't even get an apology that the food was wrong. Then they gave me sloppy service. I went ahead and threw this away and went to Rey Azteca. This was a disappointment and maybe the owners should train better on customer service. I'm all for mistakes but there was no accountability and for those reasons I won't return.

You have to double check your ticket before paying. Me and two of my coworkers went during happy hour after work. We were charged an 18% gratuity fee. First we were told that it was because our bill was over $100. It was 3 of us with separate checks. Mine totaled $100 because I ordered two rounds of shots. While the other two checks were less than $50. I asked to speak to a manger and a female came and then said it was because they split tips…and that is what they do on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I told her it should be posted somewhere. First she said it was in the menu, but the menu said “a party of 8 or more”… then she stated it was on the door, I asked her to show me. She wouldn’t, then the waiter came back while I was talking to her, and said he could remove it. She was rude and gave an I don’t care attitude. The table next to me was checking out (a party of two in a Friday) and I asked to see their check and they did not have a 18% gratuity charge. I went to speak to the man that was over her, and all he could say was he sorry, over and over no explanation for his employee practices. He also said he left her in charge because he had to go to ABC. No justification for what happened, and I felt as if he really could careless. We were going give the waiter a decent tip, but it felt like they tried to take our money instead of allowing us to give it, and didn’t care how we felt about it. No one attempted to explain or justify the situation, they just tried to brush us off and treat us as if we were irrational.

An absolute must! The Hostess was right there at the door to greet me with a friendly smile as I walked in. Was seated right away. The waiter was Great! I actually think he is the most friendliest and best waiter that I've ever had wait on me in any restaurant. When I go back I hope he is my waiter again or someone else to his equal. You can definitely tell that the waiter loved his job and that's a rarity these days. Our food came hot and super fast. The portions were perfect for the cost. For my appetizer I had the stuffed Jalapenos which are one of my favorites to try at any restaurant that serves them. They were accompanied on top of salad with sour cream on the side. For my main plate I ordered the grilled Chicken Fajita in which was perfectly grilled with onions, green peppers, and red peppers (as pictured). With the fillings on another plate with rice, beans with melted cheese, lettuce with a nice cilantro salsa on top, and a scoop of sour cream (as pictured). The food was Delicious and the service was Superb. Most definitely will return to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere, the friendly service, and the delicious food. Thank you, La Parrilla🤗

It’s okay for a setup and service, but their kitchen needs a new approach in making the food. I ordered the grilled chicken fajitas, and it was cooked chicken not grilled. I asked for it to be grilled they burned it and brought it back. Sooo, I am gonna explain how a grilled chicken fajitas made. First => We prep the chicken by slicing the chicken breast horizontally into 2 pieces. We add the spices to it and use olive oil for a better rich taste and texture; then we grill the 2 slices on a fire grill not the flat grill to avoid loosing the grilling taste mixed with the spices. Second => we prep the vegetables upon choice and for this step we place the vegetables on a flat grill and we just let it set there on a medium heat for about 8-9 minutes. Finally ==> Get the grilled chicken cut it into pieces and place it on top of the vegetables. Do couple of turns but be careful not to smoosh the vegetables and then serve it.
