How this place rates 4 stars overall is beyond me. We drove from Wmsbg because my 2 companions ate here before & recommended it. We were greeted/seated almost immediately-in the last booth next to the exit door & the service/storage station. 🙄This section had no other guests in but we could hear a lot of loud conversation from other parts of the restaurant. The server stopped by to take our drink order. We all asked for water with a twist of lime for mine. She brought the water and a lemon wedge. She should have asked if she could substitute one for the other, not just assume I would accept the substitution. Next-the actual order. We came in for the all-you-can-eat fixed price. We ordered several appetizers. They came & I was never so disgusted. I literally wanted to vomit. The soup had weird things floating in it. I was able to identify the bits of green onion but could not figure out the other specks of various shades of brown & white were that were floating on top. It just looked gross. Not eating that. The Crab Rangoon arrived almost cold. It was greasy/soggy with very little cream cheese filling (not even a hint of crab) & void of ANY taste or flavor - except for the grease. Gross! Eating that 1 piece was 1 too many. The other appetizers I didn't eat but my companions said they were also not good & barely ate any of it. Next came the sushi. Are you kidding me? Who's in the kitchen back there? Certainly not a sushi chef. This sushi looked like it was prepared & sawed by a toddler. Some pieces were big, some were small. Some were fat. Some were skinny - all within the same rolls. Some looked mangled as though they had been man-handled several times & smashed onto the plate. My two rolls Queen & Rainbow looked identical The salmon/tuna pieces had some kind of a film on them - the way something looks when it has been sitting somewhere uncovered for a while. Like something old. The rice wa dried out & crunchy. The entire piece of sushi tasted salty....nothing else. No flavor. Not even the avocado had any flavor. I tasted a piece from both rolls. I could not eat this on my worst day - no matter how hungry I was. I looked at the sushi my companions ordered and was horrified. Theirs looked the same as mine. Old, stale, and ready for the garbage. I asked our server to call a manager over to our table. We were not happy with our so-called meal. The manager came over & as I began pointing out the inadequacies from preparation to presentation to taste - she interrupted at every point telling us she didn't understand what the problem could possibly be, saying they prepare each meal fresh, use only the freshest ingredients, etc. She also told us that they were very busy & this could be why the sushi lacked any uniformity. She went on to say that everybody loves their sushi and our complaints and expectations seemed unrealistic. I told her we would not be paying for the sushi as it was completely inedible. Since we had partially eaten the unappetizing appetizers we felt we should pay for those - at a reduced price. The manager took the sushi off our bill but she absolutely refused to adjust the cost of the appetizers. At the all-you-can-eat price of 20.99+ that's roughly $63+ tax for 3 ppl. She charged us full price, $47+ tax, for the partially eaten appetizers. We left hungry & frustrated at the careless attitude of the manager. I live in Seattle where there is a plethora of sushi restaurants, one better than the next. They are constantly in competition with each other. This practically guarantees their customers an amazing dining experience. What you have here in Hampton is a wannabe Sushi restaurant in which no one knows how to properly prepare sushi nor store its ingredients. What good is an extensive menu if everything on it tastes (and looks!) old, stale, and SALTY?? I know I'm being harsh but you are running the serious risk of possibly getting food poisoning AND getting robbed for the priviledge - if you decide...
Read moreMy wife and I went as a date night, and we had a movie to catch at 7:30pm so we went at 6:00pm to give ourselves plenty of time. After a short wait we were seated, and the first thing we noticed was how dirty the restaurant was; old torn seats, worn furniture, chipped plates, cracked and sticky menus and there were straw wrappers on the floor next to our table (these remained throughout the duration of our time there, despite numerous employees walking past). We requested water and green tea, but were told they were out of hot green tea, so we asked for two orders of gyoza and we ordered three sushi rolls each. My wife got her's relatively quickly, but there was obviously some confusion because there were four rolls on the plate. Our gyoza had yet to show up and neither had my sushi. About 10 min after my wife had gotten her food our server finally returned to our table and asked how everything was - we said it was good but that we hadn't received our appetizer yet and I hadn't received my sushi. Also, we had drank all our water and asked for a refill. He said he'd check into it. Meanwhile, tables all around us are being seated and orders (drinks, alcohol, apps, entrees) are coming out to them, and we couldn't even secure a water refill. In fact, after we asked for water, our server turned to the table behind us who also asked for more water, we watched as he brought them out a whole platter of waters, but did not bring any to our table. At this point, we were starting to get annoyed and caught his attention and inquired again as to where my food was - he seemed surprised but then told us that he wasn't sure what exactly happened but the kitchen had lost the order. He apologized, but by this point we had been seated for over 40 min and couldn't re-order. It seemed to us that our server had realized the mistake but instead of owning it or trying to let us know as soon as he knew, he just ignored us hoping it would go away. We needed to leave by 7:00pm, so we asked for a manager (still, no water refill). The manager was very sweet and told us it was his first day working as a server. We were understanding but told her our concerns with the terrible service, not updating us about our order, not refilling our numerous requests for water refills or our appetizer orders. I also commented on the cleanliness of the place, noting that for the hour we were seated no one had swept up the mess and straw wrappers. She was very apologetic, had someone clean the floor and then told us we were not going to be charged for my wife's sushi, which is the reason for two-stars and not one. Just a frustrating experience all around. We have eaten as Sushi King several times (not this particular one), and know the drill. It's good sushi for the price, and as much as you can eat. Poor (or in our case, almost non-existent) service coupled with a lack of training and standard restaurant etiquette left us with a poor taste and we will not be going back to this...
Read moreFirst, let me say if I could give negative stars I would. I came here with a party of people for lunch, while visiting from out of state. The service started off slow - as our server, Lynn, was not attentive. He was unable to serve our table effectively - as we had to ask for basic things like silverware/chopsticks, napkins, soy sauce, and plates.
To add to the irritation, the food came out slow which was a surprise because there were only 4 seated tables in the restaurant. Because of our experience in the food industry, and patience, we decided to continue to give it a chance.
Things became extremely scary when one member of our group, who is allergic to onions, began having an allergic reaction to her food. Her husband had specifically asked if the food they were ordering had onions, and requested to not have food made with onions - informing the server (Lynn) that his wife would have an allergic reaction.
That being said, the food came out with onions in it - which our party member did not notice at first. When we informed the server about this, the server said that he knew there were onions in our party members rice - which was something her husband had specifically asked about and was assured there wouldn't be any.
Our party member's hibachi steak also came out with visibly large onions in it, but she was able to see those and did not eat it... But with the onions being finely chopped and mixed into the rice, it was not evident there were also onions in that portion of her meal. This led to her going into hyper allogenic shock.
Lynn said he could offer a "discount" as our party member began to break out in hives and rushed towards the bathroom. What Lynn failed to realize, and what was completely unethical, was the seriousness of the situation. Lynn's negligence led to our party member having a severe allergic reaction, which caused her to get violently ill, in the restroom, while the rest of our table waited for the issue to be resolved.
We asked for a manager and were told by Lynn that the manager had 'stepped out for the day.' So I went up to the front reception area to ask for a manager, while my wife tended to our sick party member. The person 'filling in for manager' came out with a nonchalant attitude, telling us they didn't even have a first aid kit. They didn't offer to comp our bill or even to call an ambulance. They would let someone die in that place with their lack of action and negligence.
It was a shocking that there was such a laxidasical attitude towards something so serious, as our party member had to go to the hospital, due to the negligence of Lynn (the server).
Someone could seriously get hurt, or die, from eating at this place. This was by far the worst and most unsafe restaurant experience I have ever had. I am just praying our friend will be okay.
I'd recommend to find other options for sushi and to never support this dismal establishment or their...
