O'Neill's Grill — Restaurant in Harrisonburg

We went for a late lunch/early dinner around 3pm and we thought the place was closed - empty parking lot, no sign of any meat being smoked. How wrong we were!!! Just the lull between lunch and supper. We hit the jackpot with Kayla, our server. She was great, answered all our questions and seemed to enjoy our strange sense of humour..🤪 I had the beef brisket which was pretty good and the onion rings were hot and delicious! My hubs had the 2 meat plate with pulled pork & baby back ribs, hot french fries and coleslaw (reminded him of the way his mom made it! Not too sweet and just a touch of vinegar, not overpowering). Skillet chocolate chip cookie (home made, not store-bought-ready-made dough) with ice cream and hot fudge was wonderful - I asked for a second scoop of ice cream since we were sharing and i don't share well.🤣 I like their hot fudge so next time I'll ask for double🍪🍨🍫 The place was spotlessly clean! (Thanks, Kayla!!) The ambiance could be improved a little. There was a strange, almost musty smell when we walked in the entry and when we left. Maybe the entry rug needed to be cleaned or replaced, or add an auto air freshener. They could also have a smoker or grill going with some meat cooking in the parking lot to let people know they're open and that their meat is smoked/grilled. We would've missed out on a great experience if one of the staff hadn't stepped outside soooo we could ask if they were open (many thanks to that young lady!!)👏🏼🌟 So go ahead and give them a chance to show you how...

I literally can not say enough great things about this restaurant. I have been here MANY times for brunch, lunch and dinner as a normal patron. Todays visit was through my event planning business for a baby shower.

I reached out to them about a month ago inquiring about their private dining space. I wanted to host my sister’s baby shower there. From the get go, Andy was so patient and helpful when it came to reserving a date and time. Since I Iive in Charlottesville and had never seen the private space, I really needed help figuring out what the room looked like and what I could fit in it. I reached out to Taryn and she went above and beyond by sending me a VIDEO of the room. I spoke to another manager on the phone asking if she knew the ceiling height of the room (probably the most random question they’ve ever heard lol). Not only did she treat me with kindness, she went to the room and sent me a picture to better understand how high the ceiling was.

To top it all off, on the shower day, our waitress Heather was freaking AMAZING!! We had a lot going on with kids, 3 of them being toddlers, and she never even batted an eye. She was ON it, we never once felt neglected. If we needed something, she appeared out of thin air like she knew we needed her. The food came out so fast….every single person at the shower was impressed.

Wife and I ate here today for lunch. First time visit. It was not busy but people were starting to flow in. Wife and I are not at all part of the "younger" crowd yet we were taken to the bar and seated. Right away we knew it was too noisy and asked to me seated in the other much quieter section. They did so without and issue. The wife ordered Fish Tacos while I ordered Buffalo Chicken Wings and an appetizer order of Homemade Chips. They were out of the Salt/Vinegar flavoring I wanted so I went with the regular. My wife said her Fish Tacos were very good so we're at 5 stars here. My chicken wings arrived nice and hot and with a slight crisp as I requested. But the Buffalo sauce was very weak and they had little to no Buffalo sauce flavor and in fact they had a pretty greasy flavor. I left several wings which is something that does not happen often with me. The homemade chips were a mix of soggy and crispy with about 1/4 soggy. Without any seasoning they were just so so at best. Our server was efficient and friendly. My food knocked the 5 stars down to a 3. The restroom was fairly dirty feeling with slick floor and for such a large restaurant only one stall and one urinal. And the paper towel dispenser was not working. And management. Please get some kind of Diet Soda there besides just Pepsi. Pepsi and Coke need to disappear. Not sure I will be back but...
