This may be the best coffee shop around. I love it here. It's a pain to get to if you don't know where it is or if you're going the wrong direction on the highway (stupid Jersey) bit it's well worth the effort if you're a coffee person.
To be clear, I do mean COFFEE. I didn't see a lot of flavorings or silly names for lattes with strawberry and almond syrups and green food dye (in my head this is a Ninja Turtle). This is a place that loves coffee for the sake of coffee and is incredibly good at it.
They roast their beans on the premises, in fact their enormous coffee roaster is on full display directly behind the counter, so the place smells like fresh coffee every moment. The decor is very "African Queen" with burlap bags and chalk boards all over. Coffee is not only their product but their decor. There's no hiding what they are going for here.
The menu is sparse but does include basic coffee drinks and some loose teas, but the focus is very clearly on freshly roasted pour over coffee. It can be difficult to notice the menu for their different beans as it is a literal 12 foot wall, but it is extensive and reasonably priced. If you've paid $30 for a half pound of Stumptown before consider paying $14 for a pound of Koffeewagon. It is equally as good and so much cheaper.
The owner is the smartest person I've met when it comes to coffee. I came in for some quick beans and ended up sitting to chat about the science of each region, how the bean draws the flavor profile from the cherry, and how the amount of sunlight a region gets will alter the flavor of the bean. If any of this sounds confusing stop in (I was there st 6:15 almost immediately after they opened so who knows if he'd have time to chat later in the day) for a conversation about coffee. ...

However, since I am living in NJ, I have been looking for a good coffee roaster in the northern NJ area and have found a couple of local coffee roaster such as Moon doggie, Java love and whole food etc, but they were not as good as the coffee roaster in Manhattan; either its quality is low or price is really high. After long searching, I finally found âKoffee wagonâ in hasbroosk height. I am impressed by its quality and price. After trying many coffee roaster in tri-state area, I would say âkoffee wagon is the best. I strongly recommend koffee wagon for those who wants the quality of blue bottle at reasonable price in north new jersey area. The reason why I am writing this review although english is my second language, I hope that the business of koffee wagon is going well, so that I can get an wonderful coffee bean...
Read moreI messaged Pat via Instagram. I asked about whole coffee beans that I could buy for my new espresso machine at home that I just purchased. He suggested "the Legender" which is what they use for their espresso's in their cafe. I decided to go there and I was greeted by a big smile by and by the aroma of the coffee that is there and being made. He took the time to give me some tips and ask me about my espresso set up. He gave me some parameters for the specific bean and roast level of the Legender. 18 grams in, 38 to 40 grams of extracted volume in 30 second brew time. This worked out great for me and it has been the best espresso shot I have been able to pull out of my ECM Synchronika.
The best part about my interaction with Pat is I could feel his liveliness, passion and excitement when talking about the process of making an espresso. I will...
