Jack in the Box — Restaurant in Hawaii

UPDATE: So I went back for the philly again and it wasn’t as great. Heres why: they didn’t put enough cheese. The cheese was globbed in one end of the sandwich and not dispersed throughout the whole sandwich. Also, the amount of cheese was significantly less than the first time I had it. The first time, the cheese oozed through, intertwining with the meat and peppers. Still, the meat was tender and flavorful but the sandwich was lacking without the cheese.

I could have sworn I’ve done a review on this place already. Anyways, we decided to get some Jack in the Box after receiving their coupons in the mail which featured their newest items on their “Food Truck” line.

We got the Angus Philly Cheesesteak and the Asian Fried Chicken sandwiches. The chicken was much thicker and heartier looking than the philly but both were presented well. The chicken sandwich comes with cabbage, cucumbers, and a Korean pepper paste (gochuchan or something) sauce. The chicken pieces were nice thick tenderloins of chicken with a little kick to them. I really enjoyed the freshness the cucumber added to the sandwich. I would rate this sandwich as a 7.5, possibly an 8 with more sauce.

The philly had nice thick pieces of steak, seasoned and flavored well. The veggies (bell pepper and onion) were a little lacking on the sandwich but the garlic cheese sauce was heavenly (on a fast food level). In comparison to other Philly Cheesesteaks on a scale from 1 to 10, it was like a 6, but as a fast food sandwich I think it was a 9.

I actually thought that I was going to prefer the chicken, as 99.9% of the time I do, but I actually liked the philly more. The combination of thick juicy cuts of meat with the cheesy garlic, how could you not love it?

Very very disappointing when we went to the Kapolei location tonite. I went to get the drinks & found that there was no ice in the machine. Went to the front counter to ask for ice since I wasn't able to get it myself. When I went to fill my soda, I noticed the taste was flat & tasted funny. I then tried 2 different flavors & it was really bad. One of the customers that was waiting for their order mentioned it also. I told the mgr, Jonathan & he said the soda didn't taste funny at all. Next, we saw our order was made & we weren't even called. My husband had to ask for it. The curly fries was soaked in so much oil because you really could taste it lingering in your mouth. The triple Jumbo Jack (special right now) also didn't taste right. Couldn't figure out what it was. Auwe! We had to actually throw it all away. I wonder what Jack would say if he knew about the food being served in...

One word: INCOMPETENCE

I hesitate to go to this jack in the box, but it's one of the only late night places open in Kapolei. Well, after having my drive thru order messed up on three consecutive occasions, I basically stopped going there. After several months, I found myself hungry on the way home. I figured I would just check the order before I leave to make sure it's right. Well, I get there and there are four customers ahead of me. After about 25 minutes, I finally make it to the order screen. The lady comes on and asks what I want. I tell her my order. I proceed forward and get to the payment counter about 15-20 minutes later. She didn't even have my order! What a waste of my time. I can't believe the incompetence here. Avoid this place...
