(Late Review from April 6, 2025)
This is a late review from my visit in April, but My Cafe in Hawaii left such an impression that I had to write it. It’s hands down one of my favorite restaurants in the world. I don’t say that lightly—I’m usually the type who refuses to wait more than 30 minutes for a table anywhere. But for My Cafe, I’ll gladly make an exception every single time. The food, the atmosphere, and especially the people make it worth every second.
The dish that keeps me coming back every trip is the Country Fried Steak. Let me be clear: I’m originally from Virginia, raised on true country fare, and I’ve had Country Fried Steak from the East Coast to the West. I even make a mean one myself. But nothing compares to My Cafe’s. Their version is hands down the best I’ve ever tasted—crispy, tender, smothered in the most flavorful gravy, served up with eggs and potatoes that complete the plate perfectly. It’s the star of the show every single time.
Other highlights worth mentioning:
Banana Mac Nut Waffle – Fresh bananas, fluffy waffle, and that incredible mac nut sauce. On my last visit, I told the staff this was my last stop before flying back to California and how sad I was it would be awhile before I could return. They surprised me by running out with a Banana Mac Nut Waffle for my kids, free of charge, right before I drove off to the airport. That moment captured the aloha spirit of this place perfectly.
Jalapeño Biscuits & Gravy – Fluffy, just the right amount of heat, covered in rich gravy. Comfort food done right.
Loco Moco – Pure Hawaiian comfort food. Perfect eggs, savory beef, rich brown gravy over rice.
The staff here truly embody aloha. They don’t just serve food—they make you feel like family. And that last-minute act of kindness with the waffle will stick with me forever.
No words can really capture how much I love this place. The food is consistently amazing, the staff treat you like family, and every bite feels like Hawaii on a plate. My Cafe is more than just a restaurant—it’s an experience.
Mahalo My Cafe. God bless My Cafe, and God bless...
Read moreSuper disappointed. Experience based on my first and only time to this place. First of all I’m glad they are managing to stay opened amid the Covid-19 pandemic following all guidelines. I drove from near Ala Moana this morning to Kapolei to get breakfast and ended up choosing My Cafe because of the 4.6 rating. When I got to My Cafe I had to wait for almost two hours outside the restaurant on a not so busy day. Til this point, very fair since they’ve reduced their capacity and are following the guidelines as I’ve said. After seating, first thing I was asked was if I wanted to start with a coffee, and I asked for fruits only first. They brought me the fruits and asked again if I wanted the coffee. I said I would wait until I was finished with the fruits. Back they came to pick up the empty plate of fruits when I ordered my main dish and asked for coffee. They took note and came back a minute later saying that they were out of coffee (!!!!) I must say my days start with a coffee so I chose My Cafe [cafe in Spanish and Portuguese means coffee, btw] for the food and the coffee. This happened on a Saturday morning, meaning weekend. So a few things to note: they either didn’t plan well for a busy day, didn’t communicate well between the staff or didn’t seek for a way to amend the issue (an item running out which simbolizes the brand of the restaurant). Or perhaps all three were the issue. Note: there are convenience stores and groceries right next to it. Make your judgment. My experience was a 3 because they are employing staff, following CDC guidelines appropriately, the decoration and ambience is nice, the food is fine (I had a veggie scrambled eggs with truffles garlic potatoes, not so bad but nothing too impressive) but, unfortunately, can’t speak for the quality...
Read moreHubby and I were in Kapolei for a meeting and got hungry. I saw awesome reviews for My Cafe, so we decided to give it a try.
The place was packed and we were informed that they currently had a 20 minute wait. We were seated in less than 10 minutes. Our waitress asked if we’d been to the restaurant before and we said no. She then informed us that they served breakfast and lunch all day, and that whenever we were ready to order, we had to go up to the counter and place our order. I’ve never been to a restaurant that had this policy before, so I was a little surprised at how convenient and hassle-free their system was. We placed our order, paid for it, and sat back down to our table.
I ordered the Kalua pork Benedict with lomi salmon and hubby wanted their eggs and bacon plate. Our food was delivered to our table within 15 minutes of placing our orders. Hubby said his food was “aight”. That’s the best compliment you’re gonna get from him. 😂 But, let me tell you about my food! The food was flavorful and I was not disappointed. I loved how fresh their lomi salmon was and how delicious the food was, I even ended up doing my yummy food happy dance.
After we finished eating, we left our tip and headed out. We were thanked by the staff and we left. We didn’t have to go through the hassle of getting the attention of the wait staff for our check because the order was already paid for. How convenient!
I would definitely recommend My Cafe if you are hungry and want to try a new place. We will be returning...
