Great selection of freshly baked breads. However my three star rating is for the service. I went to get a cup for water and asked the cashier where the water was and they told me to ask the barista. Waited for a while and finally asked the barista and they looked at me confused and said the water should be out there. The barista looked over the counter and realized the water was not there and then agreed to give me some water in a cup. Still no water was brought out by any staff after this interaction. It’s a little odd that they only offer a medium for hot drinks but I ordered one anyway. The drink was cold, it seems the milk was not steamed at all so I waited again close to 10 minutes (with drink in hand) before anyone asked if I needed help, when it was clear something was wrong with my drink. Lots of staff looked at me but didn’t ask if I needed anything they just went on doing other things such as filling ice or walking around talking and ignoring me standing there avoiding eye contact. They seemed to have enough staff to help out but there was only one person making drinks. Finally someone asked me what was wrong with my drink after going to help the person making drinks. The staff seem a little aloof and I think customer service should be retrained to some of the...
Read moreFilling a huge gap in the west side is 85ºC cafe. They have savory breads, shokupan (Asian style white bread in the photo), egg tarts, and sweet cakes. They also have Tea and Coffee drinks, although I didn't try one. Everything was very good, 85ºC is a chain from Taiwan, so they know how to put out consistent quality products. I went on Saturday morning and there was a line out the door. They were putting out bread, but people were buying it faster! If you want something in particular I recommend getting there at 9am opening time (note this is soft open time, they might change as time goes on).
The egg tarts were great, I feel like I've only ever had better in Hong Kong, no where in America. The Shokupan was probably about the same quality as Brug, although maybe a bit below Epiya (of course they are all the way downtown, so we'll be getting it often on the west side!). The savory and sweet rolls and breads are typical asian style (similar to Brug, or St. Honore when they were here). Everything tasted as expected and was well done. It's in the old pizza hut in front of the...
Read moreLots of fresh pastries and the taste is consistent with the location at Ala Moana. This location is clean and the workers are patient. There was a steady flow of people coming in and leaving so don't be fooled if there's a line--it goes by quickly. There is no seating here so make plans accordingly if you want to inhale everything right away.
You walk in and on the left hand side you'll find clean empty white trays stacked together. Grab a tray and read through the pastries laid out. Make your selections by grabbing from the shelf and adding it to your tray. Once you've made your selections move over to the line area and wait to be called. Once at the counter you can order from the cakes and mousses in the glass display cases next to the counter for check out. You can also purchase drinks here but you pick them up on the counter to the right closest to the doors. Sidenote: I do think the beverages here are on the sweet side so adjust if you...
